Tonle Sap is Cambodia’s largest lake and lies just south of Siem Reap. On this tour, visit one of the island’s famous floating villages, Kompong Phluk, and experience local life as you explore the stilted houses, fisheries, and floating hospital. As well as cruising around the lake, you can also opt for a small boat cruise through the flooded mangrove forests (own expense).

At short notice, by walking into the Siem Reap office, I organised this tour for the next morning. I was picked up from hotel promptly at hrs by my guide Sarom. We took a 25 minute tuk tuk ride out into local countryside which was local farmland, fields and paddy fields. Saw lots of birds and the guide was very able at spotting these in flight and at rest. Also had use of a Swarovski scope to supplement my own binoculars. Very rewarding trip with friendly and knowledgable guide supported by tuk tuk driver. Taken back to hotel and completed a check list which consisted of 49 species. It was a great experience, but and early start like this, (where breakfast is missed in the hotel), would have been enhanced by the addition of a light snack and some fruit during the morning. Excellent trip though.

I had a great half day bird watching tour around Siem Reap this afternoon, with my guide Hat. We managed to find 45 species with perhaps the highlight being a number of Oriental Pratincole. Hat was extremely knowledgeable, spoke perfect English and ensured I had a memorable trip. Many thanks, Michael Violette.

We took the Koh Ker, Beng Mealea Forest Temples tour, which more than met our objective of seeing more of the local habitat and countryside beyond the most visited Angkor temple circuit. The added advantage was birding, which included close-ups of in our case 67 different birds, enhanced by photographs using the Swarovski optik scope. Our young guide Mr. Reth Sarom was both an accomplished sighter of the species but also had the added advantage of a command of the cultural history of the Koh Ker site; his versatility was evident and we strongly recommend his services to others. Overall, the experience with this tour more than compensated for the crowds and pressures we experienced on our first day at the most visited sites in Siem Reap -- I was glad to have explored the web to find Sam Veasna rather than rely on the standard itineraries furnished by our top-of the-range hotel.

We went on a full day tour with Sophear at Sam Veasna in January (dry season). What an amazing trip. Both my husband and I saw a variety of engendered birds while we were boating down Tonle Sap lake and then we got to the 2-3 story bird watching tower, we saw thousands of birds - nesting and swirling in the sky. We saw painted sporks, pelicans, adjutants (and many, many more). It was like being on a National Geographic TV show. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and he was good at spotting birds. It was one of our highlights on our trip to Cambodia!

We took the 3 Day Wild Siem Reap in January 2020. This tour took us to Trapeang Thma Lake, Changkran Roi area for camping and the Koh Ker temple site. We made other stops along the way anytime we saw something of interest or good birding locations. The bird hide at Changkran Roi is a well maintained place that attracts many birds. Koh Ker is an undervisted temple site, home to many birds that make this visit very special. We absolutely enjoyed this tour and find it an excellent way to experience Cambodia. Great work is being done by groups like Sam Veasna to protect natural habitats for wildlife. We were not able to stop at Beng Melea due to a 7x price increase in the entrance fee. If you select this tour, make sure you inquire about this.
