Thank you so much.
It was a wonderful day.
The time with Elliot was amazing. The best guide and teacher in photography I ever could meet.

Luke was our tour guide for our day tour of Angkor Wat and surrounding temples and he was excellent - spoke English well and was very knowledgeable about the temples as well as good photo locations. Whether you just like to take nice photos for memories (which was our case) or take “professional” photos, Peace of Angkor offers both options. Luke took us to the popular temples as well as some neat ones off the beaten path but was also flexible and accommodating to our needs and interests. He was quick to point out good photo spots that could’ve been easily missed. The car ride between sites was comfortable and they offered cold water and lemongrass towels for refreshment. We would book with this group again and recommend it.

By southeast Asian standards, the tour wasn't cheap but I think it was worth it. We chose the Kompong Khleang + Beng Mealea tour and it was just the 3 of us plus guide and driver. We first stopped at a roadside "stand" to learn about bamboo rice. Then we had a longer stop at a village market where there was a birthday celebration also going on. Stopped at a couple places in Kompong Khleang to see fish drying before taking a boat trip out onto Tonle Sap proper and seeing a small floating village. Had lunch in a villager's house, then continued on to Beng Mealea. There were a handful of other people there but we mostly had it to ourselves on this late February day.
Peace of Angkor seems to cater to photographers. My mom and sister aren't really photographers and the tour didn't revolve around photo opportunities per se. Our guide pointed out some tips or nice angles occasionally, but on the whole it was an organic experience. Very informative, and it felt like our guide knew a lot of the people we met along the way. It was a long but worthwhile day. I wouldn't plan on doing anything else the day you do this particular tour.

All our arrangements were made in advance through Peace of Angkor. Our hotel (City River Hotel) was great, with rooftop pool and bar where we unwound after looking at ancient temples all day. But the best part of our trip was our guide, Ta. He was knowledgable about all the art and history of the temples, as well as knowing the best times to go to avoid crowds. He was equally expert in photography and birding. With Ta and our excellent driver, Dad, we definately got off the beaten path. One highlight was a trip to a stilt village and floating village, and Ta arranged for us to have a meal with a family. I can't say enough good things about Ta! My traveling companion had a broken foot, and Ta arranged our trip so she would have comfortable places to sit and sketch while we hiked and climbed the temples.

Ta was the best guide I’ve ever experienced. Not only was he expert on history of the temples, but he also knew when and where to go to avoid crowds! As well as temples, we had a great time birding, and visiting floating villages.Ta is also an excellent photographer and taught me a lot about iPhone photos, and had great lighting and angle advice, but never more advice than desired. Also Ta had great restaurant suggestions. Our driver was superb, we had complete confidence in him as well! And he knew where all the cleanest bathrooms were along our routes!

I visited Siem Reap 13 years ago and knew I had to return... finally made my way back with my husband to celebrate our 10th anniversary and we booked 5 days with Peace of Angkor Tours - WHAT a FANTASTIC TIME!!! Ta and Mr. Thuy were amazing and took such great care of us from start to finish... I cannot say enough great things about them.
I am a photo enthusiast but my husband has ZERO interest in photography, so my husband was a little worried about a 'photo tour,' but once I explained that they strive to get you to places at the best times of day with the fewest other tourists, my husband was in.
Great communication with Den before we arrived... he personalized the tour, took out things we weren't interested in and suggested alternatives. We were able to see everything we wanted to and so much more.
We visited the big tourist sites at off-times and often had sites to ourselves (we did go during the off-season, but still... tourism has really grown since I was last here) and we got to do things that you simply cannot do without an Angkor guide. Ta is a 'fixer...' he made the shots happen, especially with people. I'm not a portrait photographer, but I shot some of the best portraits in MY LIFE on this trip, all thanks to him. He gets people to relax and laugh... wonderful!! I'll attach some of my favorite shots here review to give you an idea.
There were times when Ta was really paying attention to small side-comments we made and later he would surprise us with side trips that he knew we would enjoy based on those comments. He was remarkable.
Finally, I want to commend our driver Mr. Thuy for his constant, attentive care. He doesn't talk much (though his English seems really good) but he always anticipated what was needed. We hired him during our days off from the Peace of Angkor tour days and he was simply wonderful, taking us around in his tuk-tuk when we wanted to go back to re-visit some temples on our own, go to see the circus and also visit the Artisans of Angkor silk farm, etc. He was always prompt, always ready for us with cold water or cold towels and always able to surprise us with a stop on the roadside so we could try crickets and silkworms (and he made sure we got the freshly made ones, not the ones cooked the day before!!) Never eat the ones cooked the day before.
Thank you SO MUCH Den, Ta and Mr. Thuy for a trip we will never forget and for photos that my friends and family simply cannot believe. You guys were incredible.

Spent 4 days in Siem Reap with my husband, and since we're both photo enthusiasts, this seemed like the perfect tour to book. And we were not disappointed! I do recommend visiting the Angkor Museum before the tour on your own to get a feel of the rich history - then the tour experience becomes much more immersive.
We had Ta with us for two days. He was on time, always ready to share information and also had some pretty good discussions with us on the history behind all the places we visited. So in terms of knowledge, he has incredible amounts of it!
We chose a tuk-tuk for Day 1 since it was mostly within the main temple complex and a car for Day 2. Ta even took us on one off the road temple, lesser known and rarely visited. He really does know the grounds well enough to show us the regular photo ops, and the best kept secrets, angles and areas. I really enjoyed shooting under his guidance on where to get the best creative shots.
The website clearly states that they don't give photography instructions, but are happy to help and suggest some technical input if you need it. Ta did exactly that with us, so it was a great learning experience as well. He even helped take our portraits, despite us saying we're totally not one of those tourists that like posing at the places we visit.
What I also loved is that Ta could understand our need to ensure whatever we did would never disrespect the local cultural beliefs, and were both animal and environmentally friendly.
There was only one aspect of the tour that I was uncomfortable with and that was a visit to a charcoal village. I was initially under the impression that this was a formalised initiative but realised later that it was simply an impromptu visit. While I do understand that Ta may have some rapport and relationship with the villagers, I did find myself thinking if I would have felt okay with random strangers walking into my home to take photos of my family at work. A similar feeling cropped up when Ta casually asked if we'd like to see a local wedding, but it basically meant just walking in unannounced. Again, not sure how I would have felt if tourists randomly showed up at my wedding, simply because they want to experience a flavour of local culture.
On a whole, it was a wonderful experience and I would like to also thank our drivers on both days for this memorable Angkor trip. Definitely one of the best.

The good...
+ Elliot is quite informed to be a tour guide with his knowledge of the architecture and locales.
+ He had good tips and refreshers on how to take photos with the available light
+ They bring you to many locations during the tour so you can't say you didnt have material to work on!
The bad...
- Elliot didn't know the buffaloes names, which he ought too since he spent 5 years there...so no, we didnt get to take the classic shot of the buffaloe in the paddy field with the white bird on its back. I want my money back!

I was very happy with my Ankor tour arranged by Den at the Peace of Angkor. The driver and guide (Ta) were excellent, always available and prompt. I had limited time and Ta saw to it that I got to see everything that I wanted and at the pace I wanted. Ta's knowledge of the legends and history of the Angkor temples is incredible and he explains everything with patience and detail. The added bonus is that Ta is not only a great guide but also a fantastic photographer; he used my iPhone 7 to take some amazing photos and also taught me a few tips on how to take good photos! I also got some insight in to the beautiful culture, history, food and life of the Cambodian people by talking to Ta - a real treat. I would whole heartedly recommend Peace of Angkor to anyone who wants a personalized tour of this beautiful place.

My wife and I spent a memorable week in Siem Reap and areas north of there thanks to Peace of Angkor Tours. Initially we worked with Den who coordinated a week of activity that included visits to all the major Angkor area sites but then also went to less visited areas such as Koh Ker, Preah Vihear, Banteay Chhmar and great bird/nature areas of Prek Tol and Tmatboey (where we had the good fortune to see a family of Giant Ibis--one of the most endangered birds in the world). We stayed in both a good hotel in Siem Reap and then homestays for 3 nights that included a floating village near the waterbird colony of Prek Tol and a community run eco-lodge near the Ibis area.
Our guide for the whole time was Ta and he is a master of his profession. As an avid photographer I appreciated his insights on specific angles and locations to use at the various sites. More important was his extensive knowledge on all of the sites combined with his interest in photography and also in wildlife. He often showed us features that we would have missed at some of the sites. The whole week was one of the best guided tours that we have had.
Peace of Angkor is to be commended for their high quality of service and are highly recommended for anyone wanting to get true insights to this area.

Hi DocNilay,
Searching for Siem Reap tours I came across with your review for Peace of Angkor tours and I have a question.
I'm a big fan of photography but for now, I'm not a fan that spends too much time taking the perfect picture and also because I'm going on honeymoon with my future wife to Siem Reap for 5 days would you recommend this tour agency for a guided tour?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Peace Of Angkor are very flexible and well used to taking couples and families on tours. Photography is our specialism but its not so important as to lose sight of the enjoyment of Angkor. Our guides will take note of your wishes to ensure that you will have an amazing time.
We do wish you all the best on your wedding and look forward to meeting you.

What time do the tours leave? I'll be in BKK at 7am. Then fly to Siem Reap. I'll probably need a half day tour that day and do the Sunrise tour the next day. Can I return to BKK the 2nd day? I want to see the main temples only.

RomanP has provided a very good answer. I do not know your personal situation BUT I highly recommend that you reconsider your plan to spend just one day in Siem Reap. Based on my two visits there, I strongly recommend 3 days as a minimum with 4 days even better - even if you just want to just visit the "main" temples.
