The stop by this ancient reservoir was a peaceful and pleasant way to conclude our tour of the Ankor Wat area. We were there in the afternoon but our guide informed us that the sunrises over the water can be spectacular. Great to stop and catch your breath after a morning of climbing and walking through the magnificent temples of the area.

Right between "Banteay Kdei" and "Pre Rup", you will find a large pool and a beautiful terrace adorned with "naga" balaustrades and guardian lions. This is "Srah Srang", the "Royal Baths" of Angkor! It dates from the 10th century and was remodeled, in the 12th century, by King Jayavarman VII, the famous "builder" king of the Khmer empire. At the center of the pool, during the dry season, the ruins of a small temple can be seen. It was probably dedicated to "Kama", the god of love, and was undoubtedly used in ritual baths. Not very much visited, it may be a nice option for sunrise or sunset watching away from the daily crowds, with some beautiful views of the archaelogical complex. Enjoy!

Srah Srang is the name of the lake which I understand is also called the Royal Baths. We went to the terrace to view it. The terrace was built for the Royal barge. Probably takes 15 minutes to view

once upon a time a swimming pool of Royal size, now it is forbidden for normal folks to have a swim. but it is still a nice place, just accross the Banteay Kdei compound. sitting in the shade, gazing out on the water, and watching out for some Royal swimmer... relaxing.

Early start to beat the crowds.Our first time in a Tuk tuk and very enjoyable too.The reservoir is huge and is an Ancient Khmer reservoir.We saw many people walking,cycling driving by it.Lovely weather and all that water enhanced the scenery.Very popular to watch sunsets.

Worth taking a quick look just to understand the scale of the work put in to build the basin. Also a quite place to catch your breath.

A place that is very less visited by tourists. Great for a short visit (approx 15 mins) after lunch or so. After that you can walk across the street to enter Banteay Kdei. Be wary of the shopkeepers that will harass you to visit her shop and curse you when you walk straight out of Sras Srang without visiting her shop.

The royal pool is close to East Mebon and Pre Rub. Across from the water on the temple side, there are a few restaurants. If one stops for lunch, one might as well check out the royal pool, where the king used to swim and possibly bath. It is a giant piece of water. After hundreds of years, this piece of water is just like a regular pool. Without knowing it was the royal pool, one would probably miss it and just pass by.
Nothing fantastically special about it. Just a good spot to stop by quickly for a view of the water and a few pictures.
Bring mosquito repellent! A ton of mosquitos live by the water!

This is the place where the king Jayavarman V used to take a bath with his wives. In fact, the name means royal bath. It has a platform with lions, nagas, and garudas. It is small platform and many people do not find it interesting. In reality, it is quite interesting. The pool represents a small example of impressive engineering skills that the Khmers had. The pool is a perfect rectangle that measures 400x800 mts. There is an island at the centre that used to had a very small temple. You can see the island and the temple ruins only when the water level becomes very low (rare). The place is actually quite good to visit at sunset at the opposite site of the platform. If the sunset is beautiful, you may take stunning pictures with orange and red colours reflected on the water.
We visited twice, we saw it at early afternoon after visiting Banteay Kdei. It is close by, walking distance from the main entrance of Banteay Kdei; you simply have to cross the road. We also visited it at sunset, around 630 pm coming from Pre Rup. We stopped at the opposite site of the platform to see the sunset. It was beautiful!

Our tuk tuk driver stopped off here on the way to Bantreay Srei so that we could admire the sunrise - it was only a quick stop but definitely worth it!

i am not so sure.. but i did see some so called stall with erected tent north side of the lake
