The ironic road between Punta & Puerto Natales -- driving it kinda feels like driving across Wyoming -- windy as hell with not a lot of traffic. Several spots for viewing rheas and such.

Be prepared when traveling Ruta 9, the Route of the End of the World - the road signs stating as much are awesome. The road quality is pretty good in most places; we did not need a 4WD vehicle and had a relatively small car. Fill up the gas where you can, there are basically no places outside of the... More

I always love a sense of wilderness and this just gets you in the right mood for Torres del Paine NP. Rheas, condors, caracaras, wetlands, and wide-open spaces make for a great drive. But there are speed-traps, so if someone is flashing their lights from the opposite direction...

Great drive between Punta Arenas and Puerto Natalas. Lots of wildlife, leaning trees, estancias, architecture. It's the End of the World route!

A fine, paved road from Punta Arenas to Cerro Castillo north of Puerto Natales. Speed limit usually 100 km/hr and you can average that. Beware of gusty winds, a continuous problem in Patagonia. Many guanacos and rheas alongside the highway. Where ther are hills, you may see condors. Don't miss the penguin reserve. There is a marked turnoff to the... More

Travelled from Punta Arenas toward Puerto Natale and Torres del Paine. The road is very good, some very long stright portions make passing easy, good visibility, but take care of the lateral winds and police officers (for speeding). Some beautiful spots for photos , especially sunset.

If you're going to drive on this road, be ready for the wind. There are flamingos in the ponds on the side of the road and guanacos here and there. A great drive, but stay alert, as there are police checkpoints, so be ready to slow down.

True, this road goes to Torres del Paine but it is also a Fin del Mundo road. Beautiful and educational 1 hour drive South of Punta Arenas. You will see many fishing villages, you will pass Fort Bulnes and Puerto Humbre. Also, you will see the monument of the Middle of the COuntry, since Chileans consider Antarctica part of their...
