    Worth a stop
We visited the cemetary while on a tour of Punta Arenas. Many of the tombs relate directly to the history of the area. Some of the grave sites are very ornate and impressive. It's worth a visit........the guide definitely helped.

    Public Cemetery in Punta Arenas
One of the most popular places to visit in Punta Arenas is the Sara Braun Municipal Cemetery. The pathways are lined with cypress trees, chapels, mausoleums, crypts, and tombstones of the wealthy families a well as other societies and groups who were noted for their love of Punta Arenas. Also buried here are settlers including English and Germans, unmarked forgotten graves, and newly buried. On site, there is a large columbarium. When Sara Braun bequeathed the property, the stipulation was that she would be the only deceased person to pass through that portal. Because of her request, the central door is closed, and visitors must enter through a side door. Some of the monuments in the Sara Braun Municipal Cemetery: Portico Monumental (Monumental Porch) were donated by Sara Braun and her father Elias Braun. Construction of this monument began in 1918 and finished in 1923. The Spanish Society of Mutual Aids constructed an art deco monument. Dates to 1899. The Sara Braun Hamburger is a structure with orthodox religious architectonic lines of Eastern Europe and dates to 1916. There is a smaller monument nearby for Sara’s husband. The Sir Walter Baldwin Spencer monument was built to honor this prestigious anthropologist whose death surprised him while he was investigating the Yamana Indians in Novario Islands. Sir Walter died on July 14, 1929. The Kusanovic Family was constructed with the neo-baroques lines and was registered in 1913.

    Beautiful and Fascinating
The cemetery is an amazing window into the history and different nationalities that helped found the city of Punta Arenas. Really well-kept and tree-lined there is a small entry fee. Parking is possible across the street next to the florists.

The cemetery was interesting as there were graves showing the diversity of Punta Arenas’s citizens’ origins. I’m not sure the tourist aspect of the cemetery was worth the entrance fee of approximately $5. I would rather spend the money at one of the city’s museums. But, if you are into cemetery’s, it is a pretty one.

The cemetery was beautiful and different from most of those that I have seen in the US. It reminded me of some of the cemeteries in New Orleans. I thought it was interesting because our group had a guide there explaining the history - if i hadn’t had a guide I would not have stopped because it would have had less meaning.

This cemetery is really beautiful. It is also a public park so you will see kids playing and people taking walks. We had just come from Recoletta in Buenos Aires and didn't think anything could beat it but this one does. The cypress trees are over 100 years old and are breathtaking! Those alone are worth the visit.

I think you need to come with a tour guide since there are limited guides provided and it’s a very active cemetery in the first place. I think the history and several notable places are great to visit. However the maintenance by the municipal is a bit subpar since many of the beautiful trees need some aggressive trimming when I visited.

As we were afoot, it was a bit of a hike to get here but very well worth the walk. What a place. Never seen anything like it in my life. Beyond the hooligans at work with their red paint (they are everywhere, it seems!!), there is true beauty that lives here. Magnificently manicured trees and haunting graves.
A must visit.

Just beautiful, a testament of history. The perfectly manicured cypress tress are a lovely respite, against all those huge tombs and mausoleums which are amazingly spectacular. Sara Braun's family crypt is in keeping with her influence. Such a terrible shame that a few tombs/crypts have been splashed with horrible bright red paint. Sad that such protests were permitted to creep into sacred sites as this....and have been left unfixed.

Some great mausoleums and hundreds of well maintained graves, some of them well know people. Was surprised at the entry charge, nearly $5 a head, but overall it was worth it. The bushes were in the process of being trimmed so it wasn't as tidy as it could have neem. Walkable form the centre

If visiting cemeteries is something you enjoy, then this one is pretty impressive. The grounds are very well manicured with tree lined paths and a variety of mausoleums and memorials. I found the experience to be very peaceful and pleasant.

I would also suggest visiting the sheepdog memorial just outside the walls along the esplanade north of the cemetery.
