Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One thing I like about Lanzhou is that most of the attractions are free including this Baita Shan (White Pagoda Mountain). I think other cities and provinces should learn from Lanzhou not to tax visitors with the hefty admission charges.
Public bus no.25 and 142 ply along the promenade along the Yellow River bank. I remember taking public bus no.37 from my hostel at the train station that alighted me right in front of the attraction. The mountain is not high probably of the same height as Bukit Timah Hill in Singapore. It is 1500 to 1700 metres above sea level. This is one of the 8 popular tourist sights in Lanzhou.
I came here around mid afternoon which is not the best time to visit as the sun is directed not at the city but at the mountain itself and you felt hot as you strolled up the mountain. Nevertheless, it is an easy climb for me as I scaled myself towards the pagoda.
There is a group of enthusiastic Chinese orchestra and singer comprising senior locals who gathered near a pavilion at the base of the mountain and were playing beautiful music and singing folk songs. I enjoyed my climb as the music and songs resonated around the attraction.
There are a number of temples and pavilions as I explored my own way up the mountain. The panoramic city view from the pagoda and along the way up the mountain is spectacular.
One feature of Lanzhou's attractions is that most of them are concentrated along the Yellow River bank and this White Pagoda Mountain. You visited most attractions in Lanzhou by just spending a day at this area. The Yellow River sculpture, the White Pagoda Mountain, the long stretch of the promenade, the Zhongshan Bridge are all within the vicinity.
I would say that if you had not visited the White Pagoda Mountain, you have not visited Lanzhou. The climb is manageable and you will enjoy it!

You can still walk up or get the cable car, but the temple around the pagoda is closed, so you can’t get close to it. Quite a few of the temples on the mountain were on the day I went. The walk is mostly in the shade which is good on a hot day. And there are places to buy a drink.

The best way to view the White Pagoda is to include a visit to the Steel bridge as part of your visit.
There is a cable car available to take you to the top of the mountain, but most people, even not so fit, can manage a leisurely walk up the mountain. I am 63 and only walking fit and I enjoyed the walk - the views are amazing.
There is a lot to see - many of the temples are truly worth visiting and the main Buddhist temple is a place of great peace and tranquillity.
The Pagoda itself is a very simple - but old building and the views are stunning.

This entire area is free to visit, with many temples and pavilions en route, none of which charge an entrance fee. You can hike up and down various routes, but probably the best way to see the sights is to take the cable car up to the peak. Don't buy the round trip ticket unless you are planning on just wandering around the peak and coming down again. To see all the sights and temples, you will need to hike back down. The paths are easy to follow and it's a lot easier to go down than up. So much to see and such a tranquil setting.

I visited this park in a sunny day in late November . There were a lot of locals . Here you can find a lot of Chinese temples on the slopes . It's a bit difficult to get to the top to see the White Pagoda . There was a lift , but it does not work .

Went in around 2:30pm on 20Sep2015. Wind is nice and cool but the sun can still be scotching hot. Didnt stop at the white pagoda, continued to explore the temples around. At the top, you can have a nice unblocked view of yellow river, the 1st bridge of yellow river and the opposite side of the city.
Steps and stairs are not too challenging.
Good place to spend half the afternoon there.

The hike up can be a hot one, but the views are worth it. The main temple area is busy. Hike beyond the temple along the ridge for less crowded viewpoints. In summer the height makes it a good few degrees cooler than the city.

It is a simple park with not much to see, but the hiking trail up to the mountain top is awesome! You get to see locals practice Tai Chi and brush writing. Take a break at the waist of the mountain, you can see the Iron Bridge on the Yellow Mountain. Going up a bit further, there is a small yet colorful temple hidden in the tress, which is just beautiful! When standing on the top, you will see the white pagodas in Lamasery style.
It was a good hike up the mountain when we had nothing much to do in Lanzhou city.

We walked up and down, it is short walk although plenty of steps. There are plenty of places to stop for a rest or visit on the way. We passed people playing live music, visited the CPC exhibition and stopped to take various photos along the way.
About 3/4 of the way up we found a zip line that you could ride, without being able to read the sign I believe the cost is 35rmb.
The walk up and a visit to the white pagoda are free and the views over the yellow river and views of the city are impressive.
