Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

To get here from the Shanhaiguan Railway Station, just walk straight down the road exiting the station. You'll be walking North and should see a wall at the end of the street. Once you get to the wall, turn right and walk until you get to the entrance. Maybe about a ten minute walk total. Not much of the wall was open when I visited so they wouldn't let me buy the combo ticket for 120 yuan. I paid 40 yuan to visit the wall and walk around the enclosed old city area.

This site was just "okay" and that's coming from a history lover. When I was there not much of the wall was open to walk on. This section isn't really impressive if you've been to other parts of the Great Wall. There are several exhibits inside the buildings that were interesting to see. The site overall was very touristy. If pressed for time, I'd recommend visiting the Laulongtou or Jiumenkou.

This location is very significant historically. This is the first gate in the Great Wall of China. This is where the Manchurian armies were let through to take control at the end of the Ming dynasty.

However, there isn't really much of the history on display. The whole area has been taken over by tourist stalls selling tat and people dressing up for photographs. There is little on display to educate the visitor about the significance of the location.

Historically this is the place where the gates where opened, following the demise of the Ming Dynasty, to allow the army from the north (Shenyang) to enter and from the Qing Dynasty. well worth the visit. Plenty of wall to walk on here and it's flat with little crowd.

Old town is in Shanhaiguan, not so far from railway station... Old town is big and nice and there are a lot of restaurants in which you can eat delicious food... Also, you can buy souvenirs in stores...

Near the end of the Great Wall. Local markets and an incredible view. Take the time to try the peanut candy. They take massive mallets and pummel peanuts into a ground meal, mix it with honey and cook it. Sooo good.

This was a nice short stop on our trip to Qinhuangdao. Outside the park leaves a lot to be desired. Some time and money to update the outside would go a long way. Walking up the steep climb to the tower was a fun experience and being on the top allows for some great pictures.

We were behind our schedule so we did not get to venture very far into the park. We headed to a local restaurant located outside the gates but still in the park somehow. The food was good and, even with the chicken head on the plate.

If I visit Qinhuangdao again I will return to this attraction so that I can see everything there is to offer.

I walked the wall here and took a few photos. The view here is really average and there a lot of shops and vendors selling fake swords, Buddha beads and the Chinese version of peanut brittle. Avoid the crowds during major Chinese national holidays. Not worth 100 RMB entrance fee.

The history of the First Pass must be understood with a good guide. The building structure, the landscape & even the name board has good history and how was the doing began. The ancient Chinese was just fascinating.

It's a old town wall with Chinese's hilight, ‘天下第一关’ which means first gate under heaven. But if you don't have any historical passion, it's just a city wall.

It was neat to visit the beginning of the wall. Laolongtou is really why we came to the area. Definitely make your way around the fort when you come.
