When we visited the Great Wall in Qinhuangdao we were not allowed to buy tickets only because we are foreigners. We had COVID NAT with us and passports but were told that only people with Chinese ID cards are allowed to enter. I wish they wrote that on their official account so we wouldn't have waisted our weekend. The women working in the ticket office were so arrogant. They wouldn't even lift their head from their phone chats to talk to us. Qinhuangdao was a very disappointing experience.

This was one of the places I wanted to visit. The ticket is only 20 RMB, and the ride there with Didi was about one hour but worthed.
There are electronic machines where you can pay using Wechat or Alipay. Otherwise, you have to queue and use cash.
Once inside you can walk around the wall of the museum/house. The museum will take you 30 minutes to see everything in detail. There is a delightful maze that will entertain you for another 20 mins or so.
Then, you go to the Laolongtou and can enjoy the view of this remarkable place. I walked out of it and went to the temple of gods of the sea.

Have not been in The Great Wall in Beijing yet but Old Dragon's Head is cool ( entrance ticket is 30 RMB ), that's the place where the great wall starts ( from the sea ) there is also a temple next to it on the beach side ( it is much cooler actually).

It is not connected to great wall, if you want to visit the mountain part of great wall(Shanhaiguan Pass) (enterance ticket is 80 rmb), you need to take a taxi and go around 25 - 30 km to the mountains, ( the taxi is not expensive 50 - 70 rmb from there to great wall area ) , when you go there don't forget to tell your driver to wait for you because it is hard to find taxi in the mountain part of the great wall area (1 hour waiting is around 20 30 rmb )

As a result, If you are interested in visiting historical places, it is a must see location, everyone can visit the great wall in Beijing but few people know that place.

PS1: Do not go to the montain part of the great wall area on winter, because it would be hard to climb the stairs and walk on ramp parts of the wall ( i am sure it would be icy and slippery)

PS2: If you go to Qİnhuangdao just to visit great wall, find a hotel in downtown not in Beidahe county, it is far :)

This is the only place where you can see both the sea and the great wall. The view is not as impressive as other Great Wall locations (Badaling,Mutianyu, etc) but is still worth a trip.

Visited Jun 2009.

Old dragon's head or where the wall meet the sea is quite a scenic area, which unfortunately is swarming with tourists.Ticket is 50 RMB/person, seen also some discounts depending on age (if with children).Suggestion is to wear comfortable clothes, you can also take a quick bath next to the wall.Would recommend early morning to avoid crowds

We are Aussies and have lived and been working in China for 4 years. Seen lots of places and decided to take a day trip from Beijing to see the start of the wall. We were pleasantly surprised. take the fast train from Beijing to ShanhaiGuan directly it is 2 hours if you get the fastest one. Spend the day there and take the 6.30pm fast train back. You can spend 2 hours at the ShanhaiGuan walled in gated area which is a 1.6km walk from the station very simple to find. Then take a taxi 7km (about 20RMB) to the Laolongtou and walk around for 2 hours. In the winter , after Nov 1 the entrance is half price, 50RMB and no people.... nice. It is a very nice walk, fab photos and the beach is lovely. great day out, lots of boards with English info so you can find your way around no problems. take food with you if you go now in off peak as there is absolutely nothing anywhere open to buy food. at these two places

Well worth a visit when you are in the area. Although it is fully restored it gives a good idea of the life of the soldiers and how important it was to protect this entry into China.

It was great to be able to see where the Great Wall meets with the sea. It might be a rebuilt section, but the area is very interesting with a lot of things for kids to do. There is a maze in the area, as well as a low ropes course and go-kart track. You can also take a speed boat around the wall or hire a dune buggy to drive on the beach. The Sea temple is also worth a look.

We caught the local bus 25 (2rmb) from Shanhuiguan as we like to enjoy the atmosphere with the three teenagers and one seven year old. We knew it would be busy as it's the October holiday but it was really comfortable as the place is so incredible huge. The ticket for the Great Wall and park area is 50 rmb (25 for child). As soon as we walked through the entry we were enthralled with the street performers. Sword swallowing, king fu, people in traditional
Dress who the kids could have a free photo with. Great atmosphere. We took our own food and drinks. The maze was harder than the kids thought but they had a ball. The dragon dance captivated us. Easy walk down to the seaside and along the boardwalk to the Great Wall. A groovy Chinese band was playing. Opportunities for boat rides looked plentiful. Plenty of food stalls. Easy walk up. Such a beautiful place. The original part of the wall is now covered in glass to protect it. Good English signage of historical information. We sat outside the lovely pagoda at the top for a while to people watch and reflect. I loved it.
