Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was definitely a highlight of our trip, although it was quite difficult to find info online or even asking, nobody seem to know exactly, so I hope this helps. The Swimming performance happens a few times a day, when we were there we saw a 1:30pm show and another one was going to happen at 2pm.
To get there, walk all the way down Central Street to the river bank, turn left and take a leisury walk forr about 10 minutes until you enter a park (sorry, forgot its name). A few minutes walking and you will see an area with Chinese letterheads fenced so you cannot really see from outside, just before showtime they will sell tickets. Unmissable experience in Harbin.

We went looking for the pool cut into the ice in the Songhua River to take some photos and ended up chatting to 3 local gentlemen who were there just to swim. (not for the ticketed performance scheduled for later that day) They happily showed us around the facility and even obliged us by going for a swim. Testimony to it being good for your health - the 75 year old looked about 55! If heading to Stalin Park by taxi tell the driver 'yong' (swimming) and he will drop you at the spot. Or ask locals - it is in the section of river between the flood monument and the cable car.
*** NOTE that the picture for this activity does not match the address. Ice swimming is done in the Songhua River not the sports centre as listed.

Watching these good natured, iron willed swimmers dive into the icy waters of the Songhua river and emerge not in cardiac arrest is definitely something you need to do when you visit Harbin. Try to ignore the touts nearby, who offer to let you hold an "arctic fox" (which clearly isn't an arctic fox) for 50RMB and concentrate on the smiling folk in speedos who dive and swim the length of the pool.
There are a few other activities for kids and adults alike to enjoy - for a further 20RMB you can slide down the hill with an inner tube about 20 times. There is also an ice slide which is 5RMB per slide. You can also do dog sledding, skidooing and a few other activities.
The performance was 2pm and lasted about half an hour.

I wouldn't call this a highlight but it was a lot of fun. Worth making the effort to attend though. So glad that someone gave instructions of where to go on tripadvisor. The swimmers don't dive everyday though, as I showed up at 2 pm and they told me to come back tomorrow. Probably best to turn up at 10 am?

Location: Songhua River
How to Get There: Tourists can take No. 101, 103 and 64 buses from the train station to Songhuajiang.
Ticket Price: 30 yuan per person
Openning Time: 10:00 and 14:00
More Tips: The best time to visit there is from December to the next January.
We almost wasted our entire day since we first followed the directions from Tripadvisor's mobile app which led us to a sports center with a indoor swimming pool where preparations were on for a championship. Then we followed directions to the address mentioned for this attraction and reached another sports center in Daowai center which was also not the correct location. We were really keen to see this but unfortunately couldn't as we didn't had much time left. Have mentioned location information on top which I could gather from internet.

There is a bit of a sideshow that goes with the winter swimming exhibit. The swimmers endeavour to put on a show that entertains in their own quirky way. The actual act of swimming in the freezing water while it is minus 20 degrees outside is a marvel.

Couldn't believe how hardy these folk were swimming in minus 12 weather heavens knows how cold the water was. ~They were intrepid souls and it was a lot of fun to see their antics. I went on the ice slide, took a shot on a skidoo and bought frozen pineapple on a stick which was really nice.

Paying RMB 80 just to watch the swimmers swim is not very worth of money and time. However, I must take my hat off to those swimmers that are brave enough to dive and swim in the freezing weather.
For those who will visit this place, you must be extra careful while walking around as there are a lot of frozen ice on the ground.

We were extremely impressed with the few swimmers that had to brave the freezing winter temperature to put up a show to entertain their spectators. Great effort and attitude. Great show and entertainment. They provide others activities as well.
