Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

San You Cave, or the Three Travelers Cave got its name from three Tang Dynasty (618-907) poets and officials who visited the area.
The white statue of the three travelers stands right in front of the cave and there is a similar one, inside the cave. Our guide warned us that there would be a lot of stairs to climb to reach the peak of the mountain where San You is located. The cave is beautiful - with old inscriptions, poems, literary pieces contributed by many other scholars and poets who visited this cave making the ambience quite poetic.
A narrow boardwalk hugs the mountain closely with the river on the other side. We started our hike from here and as we climbed we were rewarded with marvelous scenery. Temples on the other side of the river looked bright and gorgeous in the afternoon sun.
We didn't realize how far we had climbed until we reached the Jin Pavilion. The beautiful pavilion has a great view of the entire Yangtze River. The biggest challenge was to reach to the top of the Zhi Xi pavilion that sits on the top of Xiling Mountains.

A fascinating piece of Chinese cultural history, delightfully free of hawkers and other distractions. Allow several hours to fully explore this ancient site; there's much more than just the cave.

This cave is shallow with two large rooms. It is a nice break and worth the visit. Three poets met at the cave and wrote poetry and other ancient inscriptions on the walls.

I think this was a good 'training ground' for the elderly before going to other more difficult places such as Zhangjiajie and Mt. Huashan etc. If you do not include food, I guess 1.5hr is more than enough.

This place had twice encounters in history with a group of 3 friends. Therefore, it is named 3-Visitors-Caves in Mandarin. You can easily read up history of this place in other reviews. One of the dishes, the Sanyou Chicken is derived from their meal taken here too.

We took a nice lunch at the Feng Weng Hanging Restaurant. It is rather costly but the Fat Fish(Fei Yu) seems delicious. My dad loved it. It has nice view of the Amusement Park nearby as well as an interesting experience to eat within a cave hanging on mountain side.

It has scenic mountain and river, a mini cave, a mini section of towers and walls and a pagoda, a couple of stone and plantation gardens before arriving at Zhangfei's Drum Site. It is a straight forward walk with just 1 road. You can't get lost and really don't need a guide. But it is way more convenient to have one, especially if he can explain history well. Or alternatively, you can just hire a driver instead. Typical driver fees in Yichang is around 400 to 600cny. For guide, around 400cny. But it's all open to seasonal change and negotiation I guess.

Sanyou Cave is a part of a larger scenic tourist area here in Yichang. The cave attraction is nice enough for a good stroll, some good sightlineof the Xiling Gorge, of the Yangtze River along with two somewhat small caves. There is some god cultural history here but for a better cave be sure to get a ticket at the attractions ticket office instead for the Monkey Creek attraction. It has an amazing cave along with a nice cable car ride and it departs from right out in front of the Sanyou Cave entrance. Almost across the road from this attraction as well is the Happy Valley Extreme Sports park where one can pay to Bungee Jump above the gorge or swing over the gorge.

This is a place that becomes more meaningful if you have a local guide. Do climb into the small cave entrance that leads to the main cavern. Take your time strolling through the park complex. Locals come here for romantic strolls at night - I can see the attraction. There is not a lot to do in Yichang. We had time after a Yangtze cruise before our flight to Shanghai. We ate lunch at the excellent Weng Restaurant and then visited this site. If you are feeling reckless, there is also bungee jumping nearby for 150 RMB.

It is worth visiting! We went o may, during a sunny day. It has stuning views. About 400 steps, but not steep.
We were staying the day in Yichang waiting to board the ship, and asked our guide to take us there. They charged us Y 100 each(including entrance fee)

My family made the visit as my legs would not carry me up and down the many steps involved and most of these do not have an hand rail. I watched them from the bridge opposite and could see most of this beautiful place other than the inside of the caves.

If you are going on a yangtzee river cruise, you can check into your ship and walk to these caves. The cave is just average but the scenery is beautiful. There are a lot of steps. When you pass the cave and get to the bridge you can cross the bridge and go down the other side for some nice views of the cave. I went up one side and down the other. when you get to the top of the bridge there are a few activities like bungee jumping and other things. this is across the street. I took a walk down in there it is nice. If you have time drop by but do not make a special trip.
