Quaint & very interesting

Unfortunately, our visit was night due to transport delays & it was raining. However it was obviously a very interesting old town area.

This was interesting place to visit. You can see a small bit of old Chna there. Quite convient location.

LUZHI WATER TOWN Luzhi Water Town, better known as Venice of China is a 2500 years old water town 20 km south of Suzhou city, mostly found in its old traditional form. Conscious attempts have been made to keep its originality and antiquity. The old part of the town is spread over 250 acres. The town is also famous for... More

After spending time in some of China's biggest and busiest cities; Beijing and Shanghai, it was a relief to find Luzhi, one of the old water towns. There were a few tourists but it was fairly quiet and easy to explore the little streets that run along side the canals. Lots of little shops selling silks scarves and places to... More

there are many water towns in the Shanghai area that are accessible by train or bus. This one located between Shanghai and Suzhou provides a great photographic experience for those who do not want lots of people or advertisements in your pictures. Supposedly this is the "first water town" (their claim to fame) with a 1500 year history in the... More

Lots of canals, horseshoe bridges, murky green water, character and characters... Luzhi's the sort of place that epitomizes rural China's small towns. As long as you are not expecting glitz, it's an interesting place to walk around and experience. Plenty of small lane ways lined with shops selling a full range of foods, wooden bead bracelets, artwork, costume jewelry, toys,... More

It is really cool and it answers a lot of your questions like why it was called Luzhi even though in modern chinese it says lu-duan. Just hold your breath if you come across some smelly dou-fu from the pushcart vendors.

All places in China are old, but not all are beautiful to visit. Luzhi is an old town with lovely tree lined canals, magnificent old bridges, walkways and great little shops which sell, food, sweets, clothing, toys, souvenirs, etc. The village is very photogenic, it is a popular place for wedding photos, there are shops full of bridal gowns so... Much preferred Luzhi to Suzhou. The canals are prettier, and the shops more interesting. Seems to be a town where brides go to be photographed so lots of bridal shops with red dresses and lots of brides and grooms being photographed. We found some different shops where we bought a pretty fan and a couple of original pictures painted by... More
