Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This zoo has a pretty good collection of animals and could provide for a nice day out. Some exhibits could be better quality to make the animals more confirmable and it wold be nice of people did not throw things at the animals like water bottles.

The zoo is a ways outside of most tourist attractions, but it's worth the taxi fair. It has huge grounds with dozens of different kinds of animals, fountains, sculptures and more. At least one of the staff members at all counters speaks enough English that you do not need to be able to speak Chinese. There are several, what appear to be forests, with wooden walkways, rest stops and enclosures. The pandas have their own enclosure. There are several free shows every day. You can pay to be brought right into the bear and tiger enclosures in a bus. And you can pay for horse rides before the show. There are drink and food stations spaced throughout the zoo. However they are spaced far apart, bringing a water bottle would be wise. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful.

The zoo was a fair price at 30 RMB to enter. My 4 year old son got in free.

Most animal enclosures were nice. Some enclosures were poor for some of the larger animals. I did like the cracked plexiglass in the tiger observation area. I thought it was a cool effect if you noticed it while tigers were near it.

My biggest complaint was construction/lack of animals. At least 1/3 of the park was not operational. It wouldn't be that bad if part of the park was closed for construction, but the construction was everywhere. I don't think there was one area of the park that didn't have heavy construction vehicles present and actively working. You would think construction would be done in early spring/late fall not in June.

It was odd seeing Chinese people feeding animals and throwing trash at them as well. There were signs with fines for feeding, but no enforcement.

The zoo would probably get a 4 star rating if there wasn't construction and if most areas were stocked with animals.

At 30 yuan to get in, it is affordable and easy to navigate if you don't speak Chinese. There is no food of substance available inside, just vending stands with warm soda and junk food priced double of what you'd expect to pay in a store. The grounds are nicely kept and there is no shortage of beauty. There is a theme park that cost extra (between 3-6 yuan per ride). It looks as well maintained as any travelling carnival I'd see back home in North America. A fraction of the enclosures were empty. Perhaps 1/5. Some of the animals had really nice green enclosures with space and entertainment, while others were in almost heartbreaking squalor. The polar bear, the seals, rhino and the chimps in particular were in plain concrete surrounds that were much too small, very dirty water, and no entertainment whatsoever. Some were encased on all sides in glass with no air conditioning or significant ventilation. The polar bear had sores all over his head. Most of the animals seemed happy and healthy, but there were a few obviously quite neglected. People were throwing trash at the monkeys and the staff wasn't doing much about it. There were lots of toilets and they were decent squatters compared to some I have seen here. They had stall doors. Despite toilets being everywhere, don't be surprised to see Chinese parents pulling down their kids pants pretty much anywhere and letting them go. We saw it twice right on the walkways with no effort to shield them...I am told this is cultural. Overall, it is a relatively okay place to take your kids. My son didn't really pick up on the poorer kept animals, perhaps I am more sensitive. By all means, definitely a nice afternoon if you aren't overly sensitive about the animal quality of life.

It is nice and educational visit specially for the kids. Actually, I liked the birds section - paying with parrots ... we spent 90 minutes, feeding and taking pictures of them - so cute and lovely.. Didn;t like the arctic section - it's too hot, poor seals and penguins couldn't breeze properly..

Nice zoo with plenty of space for the animals. Went December 29th so really cold but still a lot of animals to see. There were probably less than 50 people in the whole zoo, and all cafes closed but all toilets open. Many of the paths were icy and tricky to navigate but walking on the snow helped. the botanical aspect was a bit... sparse! Many animals outside and also many to be seen inside in the warm! a good day out but nowhere to get a drink or something to eat. In December, wrap up warm!

The Zoo and botanical in Changchun is nice and big. I have spend 3h and I was nit capable to visit everithing. In the Zoo you can also find a nice fun park. The variety of the animals are huge, you cand find a lot of kinds of animal. The ticket is cheap considering on how big and nice it is. The price if the ticket is around 5 € and for 2€ you can feed some birds from your hand
If you are in Changchun the Zoo it's a nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The park is very well- maintained, and the animal displays were better than average - many animals could roam a bit and kept in an environment which was sort of natural. Better than cages, anyway.

In mid-February the zoo is a pretty desolate place, most of the exhibits kept inside and the garden areas all covered in deep snow. However for only 30RMB the zoo is a good day out, the animals seem well cared for, clean and the exhibition areas are modern and spacious. In the summer there is a funfair for the kids and large landscaped areas to explore too. All in all quite satisfactory.
