Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An enjoyable weekend hike to the base of the giant Buddha. We took a scenic cable car ride down. We also toured the thousand Buddha cave, and I now understand how that name came about.

Form the top of the hill, you have a wonderful view of the whole of Jinan City. Inside there is also a large Buddha statute for pilgrims. Can be tiring to cover the whole area in 1 day by foot.

The Qianfoshan (Thousand Buddha Mountain), is Jinan’s largest downtown park. The mountain includes about 130 Buddha statues carved during the Sui Dynasty (581-618 AD), a Ten Thousand Buddha Cave at the foot of the northern slope, and other statues and buildings from 2,000 years ago. The big golden statue of Buddha is beautiful and the mountain is an awesome place to take panoramic views of Jinan, especially at sunset. The climb up takes about 30 minutes walking. There is also an option of taking a bus or cable car. The Confucius Restaurant at Qianfoshan provides excellent vegan and non-vegan food as well as tea, wine, and beer and its right at the entrance of the park.

If you had read my review on Longmen gouge, this is not the same. I didn't know that until I visited here.
Took a cable car up the hill and after climbing hundreds of stairs, then realized that they have "cut" the "better preserved carving" and placed them in the temple.
There is also a cave like place (Qianfodong) which also have a lot of carving; which I believe is quite recent, and worth seeing

Love this place and have hiked several times to the top of the mountain. It’s a great place to explore and have some peace and quiet.

Qianfoshan means "1000 Buddha Mountain." It's a lovely, landscaped area with small temples and many (perhaps a 1000, I didn't count) Buddha sculptures.
It just takes about half an hour to climb the stairs to the top of the mountain where there's a larger temple complex and view of the city below.
Make sure you go to the east side of the site where the famous golden Buddha sits and smiles.

We stayed at Home Inn (Baotuquan) in the city center. From our hotel, we crossed the road and took a bus from the bus stop directly at the front entrance of Wulongtan Park to Qianfoshan (Thousand Buddhas Temple). The attraction is just 2.5 km from the city center and the public buses to the attraction are: No.2, 31, 48, K51 and K56. It is very convenient by way of public transportation.
Qianfoshan is rated as the seven beauty spots of Shandong Province and is reputed for the numerous fine Buddha sculptures built since the Sui Dynasty. Unfortunately, many of the sculptures were destroyed and damaged during the Proletarian Cultural Revolution. The `Little Red Vanguards' hold the radical Marxist view that `Religion is the opium of the People' and should be eradicated from the daily life of the common masses. Many of the statues now found in the park were built after 1979 when China opens her door to capitalism.
The `mountain' is actually not a mountain but a low hill of about 285 m and it is easily accessible but the area is quite extensive and you need some 3 hrs to walk round the whole park. But the atmosphere is cooling and relax and the ambience quiet for meditative morning walk. We went there during the month of May and I found it worthwhile to visit the place for just RMB30 entrance fee.
There are many impressive Buddha statues around the whole park. The one that left good memory were the gigantic 20 m tall Maitreya Buddha, the Goddess of Mercy statue near the Maitreya Buddha hall, the lying granite Buddha statue with a swastika on the chest and one tall seating Buddha statue. If you are into Buddhism, this is a place to seek some solace but ignored those locals who pestered you for donation when you try to take photo of the giant seating Buddha statue. The joss sticks are not free.
There is also a shady Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery at the far end of the Park in remembrance to those revolutionaries in Shandong province who sacrificed their lives for the 1911 Chinese Revolution.
The blossoming pink flowers in the Pear Orchard was beautiful and there are also Taoist temples with Confucius statues. Entrance to the Xingguochan Temple is charged but the panoramic view at the summit is not bad but a bit of misty on that morning when we were there.
It is interesting and you should not miss this attraction when in Jinan.

Definitely would not recommend if you are on a tight schedule in the city of Jinan: there are better places to go. Otherwise it can be a pleasant little destination to spend 5-6 hours. My biggest issue with the place is that it feels very manufactured, most statues were created recently. And there are additional charges to visit the cave, though quite impressive endeavor, a nice reproduction of 4 of the most famous cave/stone carvings in China. In any case, it was kind of nice, nevertheless fake, though maybe it’s too strong a word...

Also a great thing to do in a group. Climb the mountain or shall i say walk the mountain loll, cause of the stairs. When on the top you have a great view of the city, esp at night when all the lights are on. Also good exercise
