The old street lamps, the tree-lined avenues, the silence, and that nostalgic feeling upon seeing so many old German homes, reminds me of my time in Germany. I visit this area almost every weekend. Improvements are being made yearly, and efforts to convert derelict homes into quaint cafes have been mostly successful.

We had a great walk through Badaguan's neighborhood and seaside walkways. The neighborhood is nice but signage to the significant buildings can be tricky at first as most maps are in Chinese but then we stumbled upon some English signage with arrows. The distance markers are not always accurate but we just kept walking to find the buildings we were looking for. A friend had warned us the city was romantic and we would see why! This area seems to be a top spot for that with wedding photos and I swear we saw at least 100 couples getting photos taken with many of them in wedding outfits. Closest Metro is Zhongshan Park but you could probably start there or Taipingjiao Park, walk the area including seaside and go to the other metro to get out of the area. If we knew about the boardwalk sooner we would have gotten there earlier to walk it from the Badaguan area to May Fourth Square. The seaside areas appear to be littered with Tsingtao beer bottle glass which is turning into sea glass in some spots. In other spots it is just regular glass so please be careful if barefoot.
