A collection of 3 streets lined with old fashion looking houses or mansions refurbished into eateries, restaurants and craft shops. Most outlets are welcoming even if you do not intend to purchase anything, they allow you to walk in to admire the refurbished buildings/structures. There's...More

It's sometimes hard to wrap my mind around the age of China's recorded history. A visit to the ancient city with the enormous wall gives a glimpse of sophisticated society that existed so long ago.

Here, the exterior of each building has been kept as its original looks. Inside the building, new things are exhibited. Thus you can buy something special or stuff with Chengdu style. Also, you can taste transitional Sichuan gourmet.

We were disappointed with these streets. The beautiful old houses were overshadowed by the commercialism - pointless jewellery stores, tacky souvenirs and even a Starbucks. It would have been nice if they'd left the buildings without the need to fill them with tacky shops. Our...More

This is not a typical downtown. Most of the boutique here and restaurant were designed culturally. If you were bargain hunter and a food enthusiast, this area is perfect for you.

This street is a must-go in Chengdu, gorgeous little alleyways and reasonably (most of them anyway!) priced shops. Food is a little more pricey, but a lot of places do a Sichuanese opera (the one we saw was completely in Chinese) but I would still...More

Busy streets with no motorised tragic but very crowded with people. Stores are a bit higher prices as elsewhere but they are also better decorated and good athmosphere.

The wide and narrow alleys are worth a visit. Lots of local restaurants and street food. Also a lot of neat shops that sell spices, crafts and all kinds of souvenirs.

It is like Harry Potter, you run into a wall and enter into another world. Beautiful way of depicting history and art. Don't miss it if you visit Chengdu.

Spending half a day walking up and down these alleys is a great way to get to know more about the cultural heritage in Chengdu. They are within walking distance of the town centre or if you don't feel like it, you can always take...More

I recommend to take subway when you want to leave the area. Taking Didi to go there is ok but booking is Didi when you leave requires you to give exact landmarks to meet your driver as there are many entrances for this area.

Good question! We were there in the evening, until around 10, and things were still busy. But I'm guessing by midnight things are winding down. If you get there around 10, based on our experience, you'll still find lots of... More
