- Zfy EdSingapore, Singapore10,639 contributionsNice Park in the cityThis is a green belt in the city that offers locals and visitors a place to slow down the pace of life and destress. There are many trees and beautiful flowers around this big park, with the nice and cute dragon displays (it's the year of the dragon) with artful landscaping, bonsai garden, tea houses, kiddie amusement rides, a pond with row and motor boats. It is tranquil. And there are monuments to commemorate those who perished during the Xinhai Revoluntionaries and Anti-Japanese era. You will find that time has stopped temporarily here and you can enjoy in the quietness over a cup of tea, while enjoying the tea pouring demonstration or the pond to relax and recharge!Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 March 2024

We saw people getting their ears cleaned, having massages, dancing, boating in small boats, playing cards, and - like us - drinking jasmine tea by the bucketful. The park is incredibly graceful and very photogenic in the late afternoon. A good tip: Avoid the overcrowded Heming Teahouse and find your way to one of the other cozy teahouses where there is space. - AhWahXiamen, China215 contributionsBeautiful park with the 100yr old HemIng Teahouse. Another highlight in Chengdu. This park is not just a normal green park that u wld meander aimlessly. I find each section of the park embodies the life and soul of the Chengdu city. My 1st stop was the HeMing tea house. Choose a table near to the lake to get the best tranquil view of the park. The attendants wil come with a menu or u can scan teh QR code to order tea and snacks. Seated in the bamboo chairs, with a lake in view, be prepared to spend at least 2 hrs enjoying the tea and food the local people way. I also took the ear wax cleaning service at RMB 110. It was an experience, and seriously they were careful and skillful. I wld do that again. The teahouse was built in 1923, and the setting remained relatively unchanged. A a great experience in Chengdu. We also came across the Match Making section in the park where the parents of unmarried sons and daughters, seeks out other parents/ guardians and exchange their childrens‘ details hoping to get a match. The younger generation today have their way of making social connects but when it does not yield the desired ouctome, the parents take over. I know of some happy marriages that were made in these exchanges, it’s our chinese way and very pragmatic way too.Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 15 September 2024

Nice and green park. Not much in terms of "sights" except for some monuments but has a local feel to it. Stop by one of the tea houses, enjoy the scenery and if you are into bird photography, we saw plenty of species during our 1 hour walk. It's also close to Tiafu square with its big Mao statue

Park in chengdu city. This park is a place for Chengdu people to relax, socialize and drink tea in the tea shops in this park. In this unique park there are facilities for finding a mate. Papers containing personal data are placed in a place provided so that interested people can contact.
It's a shame that the toilets are poorly maintained and not kept clean.
It is quite interesting to be able to see the daily lives of Chengdu people.

Such a fantastic park. The highlight was the traditional ear cleaning. Such talented ear cleaners and so much fun having your ears cleaned while having a nice cup of tea and just chilling out and soaking in the atmosphere like a local. An absolute must when in Chengdu. Will definitely stop by next time!!!!

A lady put a Snow White bird (a pigeon, I think) on the ground, and then walked about 35 metres away. As soon as she called to the bird, it flew and landed on her shoulder. In a sense, it was so spiritual.
Many things to do and see in this beautiful park, with its gardens, ponds, architecturally beautiful structures, nice walkways, and more. Many locals were out for a relaxing walk.

Our group of 23 travellers just returned from a 8D7N Jiuzhaigou package tour. This is a standard package offered by many travel agencies in Singapore.
Below are some highlights and lowlights from our trip / itinerary for the benefit of future travellers:
Lowlights on itinerary
- The package has many “shopping” trips with grossly over-priced items
- Too little time at the real attractions compared to the time spent shopping
- The local guide always hurry the tour group to complete the scenic spots but never mutters a word at these shopping places
- Er-mei Shan itinerary was only to visit 2 temples at the foot of Mount E-Mei. The best scenic spots are at mid-way and the mountain top which were not included (we were not aware when we signed up but were told at the pre-trip briefing that visit to the top is not included in the package and would take up a lot of time)
- Many of the other scenic places included were not very memorable … maybe due to the short time given at each place and the long distance travelled :
o Die Hai Zi – 45 mins (just a bus depot, with 2 white yaks for photos & locals selling product … beware)
o Song Pan old town – 30 mins (good place to pick up leather products at reasonable price and pick up cup-noodles from local supermart)
o Gan Hai Zi – 10 mins (a nice spot for photo)
o Le Shan – giant Buddha cruise was only about 20 mins to & fro. Don’t get to go on land
These compared to at least 1.5 hours spent on average at each shopping spot
- At JZG, the “buffet” lunch included in the package reminds me of my army cookhouse in P. Tekong during BMT (it costs RMB 60 per pax). There is a sit down lunch costing RMB 138 in the other restaurant but don’t know about quality of food.
TOURIST TRAPS
1) One of the shopping stops was to a jade shop (near Chengdu). We were led to a conference room where a salesperson made some generic comments about jade when their “lao zhong” or boss makes a “surprise” appearance, who goes on a long philosophical (and to his credit, quite convincing) conversation, and puts up an act with his Sales Manager, pretending to give a very good offer on the best jade pieces by “knocking off a zero off the price ie RMB 10k wld just be RMB 1k” and offering some pieces at just RMB 300
My advice is not to buy anything at these shopping spots ... they are not anything that one really needs, even as souvenirs, gifts or keepsakes.
2) In Jiuzhaigou, the local guide recommended an additional tour to visit a local Tibetan “Qiang” tribe family and experience how they live and welcomed guests with local food & drinks. We paid RMB 180 per person and spent 2hrs. When we arrived, there were at least 6 tour buses and we were jammed into a room with 40 other visitors and treated to blessings & singing from the head of the home, the village “elder” and made to entertained ourselves with silly games.
3) Die Hai Zi – many locals selling local products such as dried berries and mushrooms. Be sure to check the weight of the goods. Our mushrooms only weighed 300g but we paid for 500g. There are 2 white yaks for photo taking at this spot
Highlights
Jiuzhaigou
– very beautiful scenery. During Nov, there was snow at the highest scenic spot (ie Long Lake) and some red leaves left. Trees are still mostly green and not overly depressing. Very pleasant to walk around to take in the scenery but felt more time could be given to walk around
– we spent 7 hours here from 9am to 4.30pm
– my suggestion is to start very early at 7am and end at 4pm. At the end of the day, there will be many people trying to catch the bus back to the entrance to leave and you don’t want to be caught in the crowd
JZG Paradise Intercontinental Hotel
Our package included 2 nights at this hotel, which is truly a 5 star international hotel. We could have spent more time exploring the hotel instead of wasting 2 hrs at the local cultural event.
Panda Research Base, Chengdu
- seeing the pandas up close is a real treat
- we were given 1.5 hours hrs here but you can spend 4-5 hrs walking in the nice gardens and talking in the fresh air … before we were scooted to another shopping venue
Local Driver
We were fortunate to have a very good and responsible driver for the trip. We easily covered over 1500km in 8 days of driving and were in very good hands
Hotels
Excellent – JiuZhaiGou Paradise Resort
V Good – Er Mei Hong Zhu Shan Hotel (we were given rooms in Block 5 which have better rooms but our assigned rooms have no windows
Altitude sickness
– the highest point was at about 3600m, some may feel discomfort due to the lack of oxygen. On the tour bus, oxygen canisters are provided.
– The guide may also recommend a medicinal potion (Hong Jing Tian) that costs RMB 100 for 10 portions. Take it if you believe it works … we consulted a doctor who said no supplement required if less than 5000m
Motion sickness
- the main culprit of discomfort stems from the heat and lack of fresh air in the coach, that is compounded by lack of oxygen at high altitude
- Remind the driver to always turn on the “air-con” in the coach
Sleeping at night
- many of us felt discomfort sleeping at night especially at JZG Hotel due to high altitude and in rooms with heater turned on too high making it very dry
- on heater mode, consider setting temperature at 22C or lower … or switch to Aircon mode
- use Vaseline or Pawpaw cream to lubricate insides of your nostrils
Food
- the buffet meals at the hotel at JZG Paradise and ErMei HongZhu are very good
- other than a couple of good meals, the breakfast at other hotels and other meals provided at local restaurants are only passable. In many places, we could not even get boiling water for instant noodles and coffee
- try the local bakeries … some are surprising good
- local street food is just so so (when compared to Taiwan)

We enjoyed walking around the park - it's enjoyable getting off the main streets and seeing some greenery! There were lots of groups of locals in the park doing various activities such as singing, theatre, dancing etc. All doing this in different areas of the park and it was fascinating to watch.
There was a lake where you could hire boats, food stalls to eat and drink and lots of different areas to wander around and enjoy the local culture.
Recommended if you have time.

The moment I got into this park, I couldn't stop smiling. I've been to many parks in China, but the park that I remember the most is Chengdu's People's Park (Renmin Park is known also as People's Park and no wonder - there are so many people). The best time to be there is in the afternoon, then there are a lot of Chinese people doing a lot of things. You can really see their culture and happiness when walking around the park:
People dance and sing, watch small performances, play Chinese instruments, play cards, do Tai Chi, do movements with swords and the most beautiful thing, in my opinion: they write down old chinese poetry in calligraphy on the pavement with a huge, sponge brush and water. Afterwards the park keepers can use a water hose to wash the poetry away.
The park is beautiful - there are many trees and there is a small lake in the middle, where you can ride on small boats. There is also a part where they store small, interesting looking trees. And there's a place with chinese fish. And you can find a stand that sells sugar-candies in a very special way: you need to turn a wheel and it stops on a figure of an animal - the figure it stops on will turn into your candy. The seller will make the candy on the spot according to the figure that you got. It's really nice!
Wow! I really really loved People's Park. It's been almost a month since I've seen it, and I still smile when I think about it.

Actually Chengdu Renmin Park(people’s park) was very ordinary park for tourists. But our guide showed very interesting things such as local mature men and women ‘s personal qualification information details announcement poster showing traditions for marriage, parents looking for suitable son in law or daughter in law there.Parents negotiating each other for marriages. Also found old people and retired met over here for casual chat, singing, playing mahjong, disco dancing with happily.
