- turps66Buga, Colombia204 contributionsBotero’s home museumA very good collection of the works of Botero is the main attraction. However the contemporary art is interesting too. As always with contemporary art some works attract you whilst others leave you cold. The cafe Urbania I would highly recommend for excellent empanadas and quality coffee.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 17 December 2023
- RschagrinDelray Beach, Florida14,995 contributionsOutstanding MuseumOutstanding museum with a large collection of Botero who was born and raised in Medellin. You can't take photographs of Botero's work in the Botero galleries. Quite an extensive body of work, mainly painting. There are a huge amount of his sculptures in the plaza in front of the Museum.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 December 2023
- beetcanner732 contributionsYou Gotta Love BoteroThis is quite the place. Before you even enter the building, you walk through the plaza amidst Botero sculptures. Get your camera ready. Inside the museum enjoy the various exhibits. Most notable is the Botero exhibit of paintings, pencil drawing and more sculptures. Either you love or hate Botero. At first blush his sculptures appear to glorify obesity, but that dissolves when you consider the symbolism in each piece. And symbolism is big in understanding Botero.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 27 January 2024
- Ph CLos Angeles, California82 contributionsFernando Botero for beginners.I have to admit to being less than excited at the initial prospect of visiting this museum. I was really happy to have my mind changed. The quality and the exhibition of these works really surprised me.This is the largest collection of Botero’s paintings.Although I was familiar will many of them seeing his works displayed gave me a whole new appreciation of his incredible talent. I was very grateful for many of the bilingual labels and explanations throughout the museum. The variety as well as the quality of the art displayed here was inspiring. It says a lot for the thought that went into these exhibits that I spent as long as possible here. I would thoroughly recommend this museum experience.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 February 2024

Architecturally very interesting too as former municipal building.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 2 June 2024
- Christian M87 contributionsGreat Collection of Botero Art!Worth the visit! Plan on 90 minutes. Spend most of your time in the Botero wing on the third floor. Lots of good contemporary art (not the crazy stuff). Make sure to check out all the Botero sculptures in the square, but be mindful of safety. Wallets in front and phones firmly gripped.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 31 August 2024

No benches or chairs! Might sound petty but this is a huge exhibition space with almost zero seating in any of the exhibition rooms. After an hour of walking and looking at art my legs were aching so in desperation I sat on the floor against a wall of windows to take a break only to be told by a museum concierge that sitting was not permitted! Since entrance is $10 dollars per person, this is really not acceptable. Considering the majority of customers are likely older people (I am a fairly fit 58 year old) to have no where to pause to look at the art and contemplate it seems insane. Compare this to the Tate, MOMA or other similar spaces where benches are abundant. Felt like a conveyer belt where we were not meant to stop! Do not visit this museum if you have been walking around Medellin first, as I had, or you will be exhausted and frustrated.

Were joyed irrelevant visit to this city centre museum on Botero Square. Outside are sores of Ferbabdo Botero sculptures dotted around the square abd inside a whole floor of the museum is dedicated to Botero's work, mainly his paintings.
It costs the equivalent of less than €5 to go in but ve warned, the guards are snarls and unfriendly, they really took from our visit. I get that they are there to protect the exhibits but they are so unfriendly and over the top that they definitely took away from our visit.
It's a good museum though, don't let them get to you.

This is the best museum in Medellin for Colombian modernist and some historic art. The impressive full floor of Boteros and rhe Botero sculptures in the adjacent plaza need at least an hour. Don't miss the rest of the collection which needs adequate time to appreciate. Not the nicest part of the city but a "must see" attraction. Great and affordable priced gift store.

This museum was wonderful place to tour. If you like Bolero art you will love this museum. The exhibits were well balance with a nice combination of traditional as well as modern art. I would highly recommend it as a spot to visit.

I came back to this museum, I was here several years ago. I enjoy Botero and visited the plaza in front with about 20 big statues, plus the museum. Most of Botero’s works are on the third floor, no photos permitted here, but changed around since the last time. The lower two floors are good too, but this is definitely the best Botero display I have seen anywhere.

This is the major art museum of Medellin. The main draw is the third floor devoted mainly to Botero works. We had already visited the Botero museum in Bogota, so we were interested to see how this compared. On balance we preferred the Bogota museum. There is a greater date range of his work here, quite a lot of early stuff that does not feature in his dedicated museum , but not so much work when he was at his peak. The second floor is dedicated mainly to Colombian artists post 1945 and although there are a few interesting mix media displays, from a personal perspective we didn’t find this quite as interesting. The first floor was a temporary exhibition which we found to be skippable.
Overall the museum is still worth a visit particularly for anyone who has not visited the Bogota museum.

Great art collection here. The second level had a collection from various artists including Botero and Pedro Nel Gómez. The murals around the building are also amazing. The 3rd floor is the highlight of this museum (photography not permitted at this level) most of the artwork is Botero’s sculptures and paintings and some amazing contemporary artwork. We enjoyed the 2 hours we spent here.

We came here with our tour group. The tickets were included.we went up the steps to see the Botero collection. His oversized sculptures and pleasant colored paintings were wonderful. And the fact that he kept donating his works to the museum was impressive. There was a life size cardboard poster of the artist just outside the gift shop for visitors to take photos with. Photos were not allowed inside the museum. This visit was worth coming.
