The Park was named in 1892 after the leader of the independence of Colombia, Simon Bolivar. It reaches from the end of Junín streets pedestrian walkway, to the Cathedral steps. It is full of large trees, with an equestrian statue in its center, added in 1923 of Simon siting on a standing horse, (which means he died in bed not in battle) designed by the Italian sculptor Giovanni Anderlini and cast by the Italian sculptor Eugenio Maccagnani. When we were there it was impossible to enter the park, as it was undergoing some serious construction work but we did manage to walk around the perimeter and enjoy looking at all the shops and the Cathedral. The famous San Alejo Market is held on the first Saturday of every month. TIP: Like all street markets, keep your eyes open for the unexpected.

Large tree shaded park in front of the metropolitan cathedral. It has plenty of benches and is popular with the locals. Not much to see other than the statue of Bolivar.
