Located adjacent to the seafront the square has a lot to offer with pleasant views by both day and night - well sunset anyway.

There are many unpleasant smells around this location but it is overall a nice place to visit and it is safe to walk around alone. The beach close by has calm water and is not too busy.

It can be quite hot on a sunny day to walk here. Trees are limited!! Do bring good wide hat to walk here and along the Malecon

Pleasant to walk about at sunset time, sit and watch the sun go down, grab some street food (excellent meet at times sold by two men in a pushcart)... Lots of families and couples walk around that place on the weekends in the evenings.

It is just another independence hero statue like many others in the country. But worth seeing as it is right on the beach in the center of Santa Marta.
