- CindyClarkBarSan Diego, California140 contributionsLoved loved this seaview strollLungomare is more than a hundred years old and is one of the most picturesque seaview boardwalks I’ve ever experienced. We strolled the entire length, mostly smooth stone, over a few spring days and even saw a full moon rise one glorious evening. This walk away twists and turns, has shade and sunshine, and always a view of the sea. What’s not to love!Visited June 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 June 2023
- Sue LManchester, United Kingdom11 contributionsStunning seaside walkBeautifully scenic walk from Volosko to Lovran, I started from Opatija and walked in both directions different days. There is stunning scenery at every step, and lots of stopping places to admire the view or rest a while. It's an easy walk, paved and flat.Visited May 2023Written 7 July 2023
- CatharineBOttawa, Canada1,117 contributionsTake a leisurely strollLungomare is a 12-km seaside promenade, initially constructed in 1889, which stretches all the way to Lovran. We did not walk the entire distance but just strolled along the section that runs thru Opatija. In central Opatija, it stretches in both directions right along the waterfront with scenic views. This is a great spot for strolling, and it offers striking views across the bay to Rijeka. As we strolled along, we took pictures of the opulent old villas, we could tell that some have been painstakingly restored, while others were decaying from neglect. Also, along the boulevard we found small platforms on which you can take a seat for a day of sunbathing and swimming in the sea. Lastly, there were plenty of opportunities to grab a meal or drink. Made for relaxing.Visited May 2023Written 10 July 2023

A very beautiful walk in Opatija. Going towards Lovran , you will come across gardens, shops and eateries, as well as beach from a pier. Going towards Volosko, is less commercial with a lot of beaches along the way, so bring appropriate clothes if you want to cool off.

Great to stroll along rubber necking at the grand hotels and private villas of years gone by. A G&T at The cute port of Volosko before strolling back.

I just saw a part of this iconic boardwalk next to the sea and I loved it. It is beautiful and the view is incredible. Definitely recommended to take a walk there. Although, if you are easily affected by sun, you should probably take preacutions such as sunscreen, hat, take every opportunity in shade etc. On one part of the boardwalk in Opatija you can also see several stars on the floor with names some of the renowned Croats such as singer Dino Dvornik, a skii star Janica Kostelić and more.

Beautiful walk at the sea. Interesting bars and houses. Definitely worth walking at least a part of it. I personally prefer the walk from the starting point to opatija

This is not a beach, as we couldn't find any sand in Opatija, but concrete platforms.
Still you have easy access to the sea and of course you can have swim.
This is a nice place to spend a pleasant afternoon.

In some places you can see that Opatija was once a popular vacation destination of the former aristocracy. If you like old villas and grand hotels, you will find them here. However, the great glamor is gone and the place has a somewhat morbid charm of its own. A place for true nostalgics.

I will be arriving in April from the Ferry Stop at Cal d'oro. Everyone says the hotel is hard to find. I have direction and a map but then most people do. What is the secret to finding the hotel??

Is it possible to hop on and off a Hurtigruten cruise? We'd like to travel in September and spend a couple of nights on the islands. Can we then get back on another ship? We're also thinking of incorporating a rail journey. Any suggestions as to what would work? Thank you.
