Nice morning walk
Mar 2020 • Business
It was a nice morning walk and the way to spend Saturday morning for a weekend in the middle of a business trip. On Saturdays you can actually join WHO-organized walks from Dili to Cristo Rei and back. Has to be really early morning as even at 8 am in February it was quite hot.

Beautiful statue, beautiful views!
Feb 2020
We took a 1/2 day tour of Dili and Cristo Rei was our final stop. This imposing statue overlooks the ocean and is reminiscent of Christ the Redeemer in Rio. You will need to climb stairs to get to the top, but you can take it at a leisurely pace and examine the Stations of the Cross engravings along the way. Also, the views out to the beaches on both sides are quite lovely: the busy, roadside beach on your left as you ascend, and the quieter beach on your right.

Certainly a well known landmark in Dili, and a must-see.

Amazing View
Feb 2020
When I heard about the number of steps I had to climb before I get to the top where the Christo Rei is, I was a bit discouraged but I challenged myself and went up the steps, I'm glad I did because the view from the top was great.
Please visit early in the morning or late afternoon because the sun can be punishing.
Good exercise and close to the beach.

Dili as a cruise stop
Feb 2020
As a cruise stop its uneventful and not much to see around it, most people visit the statue which is quite challenging with young kids but nice views.
Cool off on the beach afterwards which is nice though a bit rocky with local street sellers available for food and drinks. Cab back is around $5 don't be

I did not climb the stairs to the top but plenty of people do! Bring a hat if you plan to. Beach is relatively clean.

Hike in the Morning/late afternoon
Jan 2020
Cristo Rei is the second highest Jesus statue after Rio with 27m. hike in the morning to help yourself from a punishing Dili sun. but the sun behind the statue wont help you to snap a good photo, if thats the intention.

an interesting track to beach is available along the way. in a city where not much is happening, Cristo Rei should be the first and top priority to visit

Worth the trip
Oct 2019
You'll need to set aside about 20 minutes to get to the foot of this monument from the centre of Dili, and another 45 minutes to climb up and get nearer to the statue. It was too hot to make the trek to the top of the hill by the time we got there (it was about 10:30 a.m.), but if I ever find myself in Dil again, I will try to be there by 5 am to watch the sunrise from this peak.

There are very few structures in the area, with a few resorts that looked very tempting because they were so isolated.
