Great tour of tortoise breeding center dedicated to saving the species! Toured on feeding day - extra special. The tortoises range from babies to great grandparents - good walk through natural terrain.
This was an excursion from the Silver Galapagos that was one of the highlights of the 7 day cruise. It was educational as well as the ability to see Tortoises in their natural settings. This was one of the least difficult excursions on the cruise;...More
This is a tortoise breeding center so you won't find too many huge tortoises, as most are released into the wild once they are 5 years old. We did see several big ones. The babies and young ones are super cute though. It's a hot...More
We love turtles and tortoises and always fret when we read the news about poaching. It was great to visit a place that is trying to increase the population of giant land tortoises. We came a bit late in the day, so I think most...More

If you haven't seen tortoises on the other islands, like me, as yet, this is a great setting and sighting for these amazing creatures. Lots of info, and tortoises ranging in age and size, up to really big. My guide was Spanish-speaking, but helpful in...More
This was a great way to learn more about the tortoises in an instructional setting, seeing them from a few weeks to a few years old, to seeing them throughout the conservancy decades old. Great photo opportunities.

This was one of the excursions from our cruise around the islands, about a 40 minute drive by bus across the highlands. Our bus was not air conditioned but since he drive with doors open it was fine! The tortoise place is where they breed...More

I spent 3 days on San Cristobal and never saw or heard of a bus. It's all taxis. What you want to do is hail a taxi in town and for $30-40 the taxi will take you anywhere you want to go for 3-4 hours. That's enough to do the tortoise station, el Junco, and Playa Chino...pretty much all there is to see in the highlands. Back in town, don't miss the interpretive station/frigate bird hill/snorkeling in the lagoon there. Good luck!
