Rachel from Think Galapagos assisted me to plan a Galapagos trip with my 22 year old son. She took in all the details on what we wanted to do, and gave us back the perfect itinerary. It was completely personalized and fit everything on our 'wish list', right down to the dates requested. We wanted to scuba dive and explore, and that a is what she planned for us. She coordinated our stay in Santa Cruz at Galapagos Suites, our dives through Academy Bay Diving, and then 5 days on the Bonita Yacht. We were very well cared for and escorted from start to finish: guides assisted with all paperwork, rides to and from every point, and all paid in advance with our fee so there was no having to arrange transportation, etc. The guides were friendly and we felt safe and well cared for every step of the way. Before the trip I thought it sounded too good to be true, but it was in fact true in every way which made it even better. My son and I both repeatedly commented on how smoothly everything went and how lucky we felt to have found Think Galapagos. I can't say enough about how special this travel agency is and highly recommend them.

Some friends highly recommended Think Galapagos from a previous trip. They had been twice, the second time with another company and regretted that decision.
Having spent much time researching the different holiday companies, Think Galapagos came out on top. Rachel was so helpful in arranging our bespoke itinerary and we had a wonderful couple of weeks planned. Unfortunately Covid-19 changed our plans. We had to reschedule our holiday 3 times over 2 years and eventually decided to cancel until it feels safer to travel.
Despite cancelling the trip Rachel has worked tirelessly to ensure that the money for our flights was refunded despite them being booked through another company. She has an excellent knowledge of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
We do plan to book another trip once travelling is easier - it will be with Think Galapagos

We have travelled on a couple of the guided tours (Galapagos and Patagonia) and each planned itinery has been the trip of a lifetime. Everyone you travel with seems to have a sense of shared history and interests. It was more like going with your family. Santiago the group leader is highly professional, fun and cares deeply about what he does. Rachel provides the back up and is always cheerful, well organised and responsive at every stage of your journey. The arrangements are second to none with high quality guiding, activities and accommodation. We can't wait to travel with them again.

Absolutely fantastic almost 4 week trip to Ecuador and Peru! We had separately booked the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu (in 2019…), and when we could finally travel again, decided to go to the Galpagos before hand. We were very luck that Rachel could get us a cabin on the Ocean Spray - a wonderful ship that I was on in 2015 which has been refurbished and has new ownership. Staff and naturalist were wonderful, cabins were roomy, food was great - and a huge shout out to Edison, our cruise director. After the cruise, Rachel very wisely suggested additional time in Peru before the trek to get used to the altitude, and arranged the best possible itinerary for us: Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca, train to Cusco, and then tours of Cusco and Lima bookending our Trek. All the local tours in Peru were wonderful - Rachel knows how to find excellent local tour companies to partner with. This was the trip of a lifetime, thanks to Rachel and Think Galapagos!

Traveling with Think Galapagos has revolutionized how we view travel. This was our first group travel experience and perhaps the most memorable of any of our vacations. We didn't just "see" Ecuador and the Galapagos; led by the expert guidance of Santiago, we learned about the nature, culture, food, and geography of this delightful country. Every detail was well planned, executed flawlessly, and modified spontaneously around the interests of our group. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We would highly recommend the services of Think Galapagos to travelers who want the best in fun, organized, and personalized travel.

I discovered Rachel at Think Galapagos through a friend of a friend who had recommended her. From the start Rachel has been amazing in every way, from arranging a wonderful bespoke experience full
Of interesting places to stay, providing detailed information on things to do, see and eat, organizing friendly knowledgeable guides, responding to every email within hours etc. unfortunately, my adult son became very Ill on the first day of the trip and so we could not go on the boat tour of The Galapagos as planned. Rachel’s team helped me to get him seen at a hospital and once he was better and could fly home, she rearranged my trip out to the islands with another boat, even finding me a much cheaper rate for the sake experience. She also provided all the paperwork I needed for my insurance in s timely manner. We had numerous calls and emails back and forth, sometimes late into her night and I felt so looked after. It was really like having a supportive family member there and I could not be more grateful. The best service I have ever had from a travel company by far and at a price that was very reasonable for all the stress it took away from me!

Our Galápagos cruise on the Seaman Journey, plus Cloud Forest and Quito trips, were all expertly organised for our multigenerational family group by Rachel at Think Galápagos.
The great quality of our guides, transfers, boat and crew, accommodation, pre-trip guidance and endless patient question answering all demonstrated Rachel’s years of experience, depth of knowledge and passion for ensuring all of us felt safe and had the most wonderful adventure, perfectly matched to our preferences. Thank you for your hard work, kindness and enthusiasm for making sure we had the best time from start to finish!

I have travelled with Think Galapagos many times now because they organise the most amazing trips and will also put together bespoke itineraries which are beautifully thought out. Rachel and the team are superb in ensuring communication is maintained and they have some great ideas to make each trip just perfect. They are keen to develop links with local communities in places on the itinerary, so you will find you can have access to some wonderful experiences with local people if you are interested to do this. Everything they have organised for me, either travelling independently, or on one of their group trips has been superb. Santiago who leads many of the group tours is so knowledgeable and thoughtful. They certainly go the extra mile and I would highly recommend them.

Great experience arranged by Think Galapagos. Rachel was more than helpful right from our initial enquiry through to delivering a fantastic itinerary based on our requirements. It was comforting to have someone with first hand experience and lots of additional ideas to make the trip special for us. Would have no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone planning a visit to Ecuador and the Galapagos.

We are so glad we worked with Think Galapagos. They were consistently responsive, attentive to detail, and dedicated to making our trip smooth and happy. They worked within our time frame and preferences, and tinkered with our scheduled as we requested. And they helped us roll with the pandemic, efficiently taking care of deferred plans and negotiating rescheduling at every juncture. Great company.

We don't swim so have no interest in snorkelling activities but still want to experience a Galapagos cruise. How would our lack of swimming ability be accommodated? Any alternatives to snorkelling/swimming?
Written 22 August 2018
This is quite a common question we have from our guests. Although snorkelling is quite an important part of the daily routine on board a cruise, with typically at least one snorkel activity offered on an average day you can still definitely enjoy a cruise without snorkelling. Most yachts do offer the option to kayak during snorkel visits which are an alternative, and if the snorkels are off a beach, you can simply stay on dry land and enjoy the scenery and setting on the island. If it is a deep sea snorkel, which involves a dingy ride you can just stay on board the yacht and soak up the beautiful scenery and enjoy the peace on board whilst the majority of the guests are off snorkelling.

How much snorkeling did you do? Which itinerary were you on? What kind of wetsuits were provided, all sizes? How much to rent them? When in June did you go? I am thinking of purchasing a full wetsuit for our trip next May-June, as I get cold easily. Thanks!

From Rachel Dex, owner of Think Galapagos:
Thanks for your question Denise. Typically you get to snorkel twice in a day most days, once after the morning land visit and again after lunch before your afternoon land visit. Most yachts have on board 3mm shorty wet suits that you can hire, for between $30 and $35 for the week and usually have a good range of sizes on board, however if you have an unusually small or large size, it is good to let the yacht know in advance so they can ensure they have a suitable wet suit for you on board.
Usually a 3mm shorty would be fine, and especially for next May-June next year as due to the El Nino event that is taking place which means the water will be warmer than normal - typically it is around 23-24 degrees centigrade on average around the islands around May-June, but for 2016 it would be higher temperatures than this (exactly how much warmer is very hard to predict but at least 1 degree centigrade). However, that said, sometimes people do wear full wet suits, and certainly no harm in doing that if you do feel the cold and if you do want a full wetsuit you would need to take it with you as the yachts just rent shorty ones.
