Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed at the Badawia (Bad Idea) Hotel next door. This English Bar with great food was an Oasis. Cold beer (ice round the pump & whiskey that tasted like whiskey). Food is served from 1pm but would highly recommend the English Breakfast (real bacon & pork sausages etc etc) £4.50 English, All you can eat BBQ on Friday evening was superb (Chilli con carne was exceptional) £3 English per head & Sunday Roast £5 English (As close as you'll get abroad) - Lynne, Nigel & rest of bar staff were great fun & really helpful & Mohamed (The Chef) what can I say - We love you & your food (All served hot) - Those that have eaten at the Bad idea will understand this comment

This bar is situated in a very dark derelict area behind il Mercatos Main Street. We tried to find it on foot but in the end caught a cab and the driver eventually got us there after asking other cab drivers where to go.
Upon arrival it was like walking into something from a bygone era.
There was a strong smell of urine masked by the dense blanket of smoke that engulfed the whole place.
As we had made quite an effort to find the place we decided to stay and watch the football. We found a table beside the door which we wedged open in order to try to breathe some clean air.
All was well until two local expats came in and asked for the television to be turned over to watch rugby.
A very rude scottish lady (who was obviously inebriated) got the remote and turned the tv over without even asking if we were watching the football.
I am assuming she is the landlady at this point and went over to the bar to ask why she had done this.
Her reply amazed me.
" If you don't like it go somewhere else I am not bothered about your custom"
Needless to say we left and got another cab to the tavern2 which is close by where we we're treat very well by attentive friendly staff.
My final advice if you still decide to go to the half crown is to take a gas mask and don't go specifically to watch football as you may well be disappointed.

Firstly, can i mention that the half crown has moved!it is now located in the Rock hotel, opposite the Sunrise.
Secondly, i just love this place.Although big Steve has left the remaining staff stil gave us a big welcome back. Not sure whos madder...Jack or Alan "Bonkers".
Quiz nights, barbecue nights, english food (proper chips, breakfasts and sunday dinners) and loads of teles to watch the footy on.what more could you ask for in Egypt.

Me and my family ate at the Half Crown during our stay in April 2015.We had a bit of trouble locating the place as they had recently moved and not updated their location,Its near the Rock Hotel for future reference,The food is spot on,drinks cold and taste like the should(better than all inclusive beer)friendly staff, good vibe and very reasonably priced.I would recommend a visit here during your stay, you can't beat a taste of home, also they do sunday roast, which im sorry to say we missed, but we are going back in November so we will have one then.Big thumbs up from me and my lot!
