The location is great...its green everywhere..and with sea view in the end.. You can reach the side of the sea.. walk there or have a seat for some time round drink and eat some snacks. Take care some part in garden with long stairs.. You can take a ride of lifting cars inside..to reach the end point or the opposite way. It was a lovely time there.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 9 November 2023
- peter bischoffYogyakarta Region, Indonesia182 contributionsGarden of EdenA garden that is not really a garden, just that is the charm of it. It looks like a raw piece of nature that is extrodinairy due to the unique black sea climate. Nature is abundant here like i’ve only seen in the tropics. Banana trees grow under spurs. Bamboo accompanies beech forests. It’s like Canada meets the tropics. A landscape that is truly unique on its own and i haven’t seen anywhere else before. This litterly is growing into the black sea, a unique sea on it’s own ,with that typical pale blue color. It definitely feels like being in the garden of eden here.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 May 2024

The Batumi Botanical Gardens, just up the Black Sea coast from Batumi, are said to be one of the biggest botanical gardens in the former Soviet Union, supposedly containing over 2,000 different kinds of plants, divided into nine sectors (eg. East Asia, Australia, Mexico, etc.). Getting there from Batumi is easy — we took a taxi but there are also public buses — and entry is 20 lari per person. Inside there is an open bus that takes passengers up the main route for 10 lari per person. We did that to save ourselves some walking and get some sense of the place, and then walked back down at leisure, meandering off onto side trails here and there.
The gardens are indeed large, green and lush, and there are some beautiful trees, mossy groves, little brooks and ponds, and lovely views at various points. BUT it has to be said that the signposting leaves a lot to be desired. Actually, the gardens are not just poorly signposted but almost entirely lacking in signs, so that you cannot tell which section you’re in or how to get to a particular section, whether you should go right or left when you come to a fork in a route, or where a side trail leads, or if there’s a steep hill or stairs up ahead, unless you have a phone or other device with an internet connection and an online map. Many but not all trees have plaques on them stating what they are and where they come from, but the sectors are not delineated and even when you think you’re in one particular section, there are trees from other places there too. What’s more, the paper map given at the entrance is of little help — why is there one map showing the sectors and another showing trails and kiosks, toilets, etc., instead of a single combined and integrated map that would actually enable you to understand where you are?! So, you do find yourself wandering around confused a lot. Judging by the other visitors there that day, we weren’t the only ones feeling that way. A few simple signposts would be immensely useful.
Finally, I don’t know if this is a seasonal issue, but as these are botanical gardens we were expecting to see a variety of flowers, and yet there were only a few here and there. The gardens seem to be largely comprised of trees and shrubs, which create a lovely green and brown canopy that is peaceful and provides welcome shade from the summer heat, but, unless you’re a botanist, trees and shrubs all tend to look quite similar to one another. We’d been hoping for a more varied display of colorful flora.

The taxi dropped us off at the lower entrance and that’s how the nightmare began…
We paid 30 GEL for 6 people including two children and asked about access for people with disabilities. They told us it was possible to hire a car/transport after walking uo “a bit”.
1. It was not a short walk and it was quite steep for my mother with disability and a 3 year old child. In the result, the whole family had to stop and sit on a bench
2. I had to go up myself and get the transport sorted for my mother and family members and it was a very stressful experience.
While the lady (the cashier) tried to help, the drivers were not helpful at all. Appallingly, I was even ridiculed by one of the drivers for wanting a special treatment for my mom who has RA!
Another driver suggested “let all the family walk 300 metres up and then we go and fetch your mother”. I ignored him and waited patiently until the third person , a guy called Padri , arrived and he agreed to go down and fetch the whole family.
I hired the whole car (7 seats) and paid 70 GEL, even if there were only 6 of us in total including a toddler. While we were downstairs to pick up my family, I saw another family struggling like we did. Two ladies: a mother and a grandma , with three children , looked desperate, we had space for two people in the car, but the driver just refused to help any of them.
It was really grotesque . I tried to reason with him to try and help the older lady at least, but it was absolutely useless. He yelled at me saying he will lose his job if he helps them and takes her up although I did show him my tickets covered space for 7 people..
Needless to say the whole botanical experience got ruined by that employee’s fear of the management and breaking their unfair rules..
I told him this whole organisation was quite poor and they needed to think about people with disabilities and he should have acted as a human in the first place. It didn’t help. He kept quoting the rules , telling me off for challenging him etc.
In all honesty, I understand it’s not the employee’s full personal fault, after all it’s not his responsibility to write and rethink the policy of the Botanical Gardens neither he must ensure the transport is supplied at the bottom site entrance from the start. He was only a driver and he would have helped if the overall policy of the place was different.
I do blame it on the management of the Gardens, Mr. Irakliy Archaya who has been in charge since 2016 or so.. According to the Gardens website, the guy is a lawyer, but it looks like he did nothing to alleviate people’s lives or concerns about the lack of access.
I honestly feel Batumi’s botanical gardens should not be advertised as a tourist attraction. It cannot provide the bare minimum for people with special needs including children.
Never going to that place again. Very bad experience. Poor management and a waste of taxpayer’s money. Avoid if you have disability or if you sympathise with the cause.

Large, beautiful and interesting botanical garden with beautiful sea views. There are many different plants from all over the world, beautiful flower beds, a picturesque Japanese garden, a bamboo grove, a fish pond. There are gazebos and recreational shops. We've been here twice in May and September both times we really enjoyed it. In spring, the garden drowns in flowers. A great place for relaxing and beautiful photo shoots.
From Batumi, there is bus number 15 and routes 31 and 40.

It is a nice place to walk with lots of shade and interesting plants. The signage isn’t that good and it seems only the cape Green entrance is good for public transport or taxi. 20 GEL entrance for a walk in a nice park, but not a great park. Then to catch the electric bus down from the Chakvi entrance they wanted another 10 GEL. I know it’s not a lot but so many other places have been generous and welcoming it seemed out of character. The bus trip back to the hotel was fun.

Gorgeous location of the Botanical Gardens with views of Batumi and the sea! The territory is large, it takes at least 2-3 hours to walk leisurely. There are many panoramic platforms and benches for rest. I used the services of an electric car to return to the main entrance, I recommend it! The driver told me so many interesting things along the way! A must-see visiting on a trip to Batumi.

Not worth it, you get dropped off and no way to get back, nothing to see inside. Drivers will tell you go, Georgia has it, so you should visit it. The car stopped once for a picture. It was only one good pic of flowers, the rest of it was so so, I would not recommend unless you just want to go for a nice walk in good air. Other than that, I would not go.

What a huge waste of time and money. Taxi dumped us at the entrance and we had to walk uphill 300 meters after paying to get in (I'm disabled). No taxis will drop you at the top entrance. Finally get to electric bus ticket booth and there are no guided tours on weekends (wtf?). We paid to take a tram up to the top exit rather than walk all the way back down. No flowers in bloom. just trees. In may. Left to find taxis that charge double from that entrance to get back to the city. There are more few flowers in my garden than this place. Horrible!

Make sure you get dropped off at the top and then you walk down to the entrance/exit at the bottom. There are not enough signs but you find your way around quite easily. Views are incredible, one of the best botanical gardens I have seen.

Away from the city with occasional disturbance from coastal train service. Nice beach. Nice views from inside the Botanical Gardens. Quite surprising area. Signage could use some modernization. But ok considering the state of the country as a whole.

If you like being in nature, the forest and flowers, it is a must-visit place. We didn't have time and my son couldn't afford to visit all of them. I planned to visit all of them during the season when the flowers bloom. Also coincides with sunset

Is it a good place to visit in winter?
Written 31 August 2019
I would say that winter is not going to be great actually. We went in March and the flowers were starting to come out and the trees were just starting to look nice.
You will get sone nice views, don’t get me wrong, but the gardens themselves probably won’t be spectacular between November and mid March.

Как пройти к дикому пляжу на Зелёном мысу, чтобы искупаться? Говорят, через Ботанический сад))
Written 25 August 2019
если пройти совсем немного от входа в сад и завернуть направо (там еще будет мангал и место для трапезы ), там будет станция ж/д, проходите через нее и вы на пляже, можно идти вдоль него параллельно ж/д путям.

Is there a beach in the botanical garden or just near it outside?
Written 19 August 2018
There are 2 beaches one almost on the teritory of the gardens just across the railtracks and one called green cape i should advise to go there it's only 300m walking from the lower entrance. This beach has beachchairs, parasols, restaurant and even free wifi. Entrance is free.

We are going to visit Batumi between April 17 and 22.
Are the botanical gardens open on these days? What hours?
How do we get there from Batumi downtown?
Are the gardens green during this period?
Are there flowers in bloom?
