Neighbourhood: Charminar
Hyderabad’s most iconic architectural delight, Charminar is beyond just a popular
monument. It’s the nucleus of the busiest and most vibrant lanes of the Old City
studded with shops selling bangles and pearls. It can be too crowded and overwhelming, but to every tourist’s delight, the gems and hidden treasures in this
neighbourhood are full of culturally rich stories. The best view of one of the city’s
oldest mosques, Mecca Masjid is from the top of Charminar. It’s quite a usual sight of
walking into a grey sea of pigeons with an aroma of meaty street food and melting
dosas, as you are exploring the little pockets around this magnificent historic building. Walk along the streets that lead you to museums and palaces of the Nizams who ruled the city and soak up the old world charm in its truest character.

This is historic masjid built partly with bricks made from soil brought from holy city of Mecca. The Mosque is currently being restored. You cannot take camera but can click pictures with mobile. The part where all save the first and last Nizam lie buried has been beautifully restored

Great architecture. Foreign visitors are welcome to visit the inside of the mosque. There is a lady outside who would make sure ladies have scarves around their necks before entering the mosque.

Mecca Masjid is one of the laregest mosques in India and one of the oldest mosques in Hyderabad. Located right next to Charminar which offers great views of the mosque from its ramparts. Legend goes that the central arch of the mosque is constructed with bricks made from the soil brought from Mecca. Large structure that can house 10,000 at one time.

Mecca Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India located near to Char Minar. This mosque is an architectural marvel built by Qutb Shah. If you want to go inside, you need to keep your shoes and backpack outside and decent clothes are expected. Women are required to cover their head with a scarf. A must visit place for history lovers.

A couple of my friends and I were exploring the area around charminar and went to visit Mecca Masjid which is located right next to Charminar. We were covered and wearing kurti/ tee shirt with jeans but weren't allowed inside. We decided to get some duppata ( sold outside for 100 rupees which is overpriced) to cover our heads. Despite that we weren't allowed to enter. We took few pictures in the courtyard and left.

the way this was built was too impressive. The side view of this masjid was too good with the pigeons flying in the background, less congestion than charminar. and definitely we had a nice view of charminar from here.

Girls can wear jeans t.shirt or shirt inside the masjid or not??? Or is their any particular dress code.

As for the other reviewers who have replied...I think none of u are girls.... so u shud know it is nothing to do with skimpy or revealing clothes. Even if u r wearing jeans and long shirt covering much more than a sari would... u still have to wear extra stuff over the jeans that they give at the entrance. No common sense involved :)
