Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were on a personal visit to Chandigarh. I have visited the gallery 35 years back and had some memories, so wanted to spend some time. In particular, I could recollect a painting of Guru Govind Singh (it was still there !!). The gallery is well maintained. Especially interesting are unique bronze pieces and Buddha in Greco-Roman style and with a mustache. Overall worth a visit.

An absolutely glorious collection of Gandhara Buddhist Sculptures. (2nd and 3rd century AD, from the areas in Pakistan and Afghanistan).

There are many stunningly beautiful items here and some very large ones.

I was amazed and thrilled to find this collection. It is an absolute gem of a collection. Am absolute highlight of anything I have seen anywhere.

The large, thick, hard-backed book of the collection is packed with photographs and descriptions and is also excellent.

Lovers of Buddhism and Indian Art in general should not miss this. It is very close to the Rose Garden.

Boring place if you are not the sort who loves museums and art galleries. Still the collection is worth a visit once.

What really strikes you is the classical Indian apathy. You can see a huge number of staff within the museum. They'll be seen gossiping, reading newspapers, playing on their mobile phones. If these people can provide some information on the stations they are posted, it will be more than what can be called a guided tour. But, sadly as all Indian government employees they get paid for doing for nothing. What a waste of money!

Fee Rs 10 per person.

Using the same ticket you can visit the nearby architecture museum which tells details about how Chandigarh was built!

Just outside the museum is a old military tank for photos! :)

This museum is full of interesting, well curated collections - I could have stayed there all day and re-visited many times if time had permitted. Thank you.

The cost is a mere Rs10 and the collection is informative, enjoyable and well worth seeing.

If however you are a Nicholas Roerich fan and are hoping to see five of his paintings, you may be disappointed. They were no longer on display when I visited. If you are going to Manali in Himachal Pradesh do make the effort to visit the collection at the International Roerich Memorial Trust at his old home in Naggar. It is well worth it.

Back to Chandigarh, the ticket for the Museum will also get you into the nearby Natural History Museum but no longer gets you the nearby Chandigarh Architecture Museum

I was taken to this museum by my Indian host for a lightning tour as we didn't have much time. Starting from the outside there are wonderful Indian statues of their gods and other figures dating back to at least the 2nd century, some in very good condition, some not. Inside there are wonderful items of metalwork, stone, coins, ancient and modern paintings. Some of the colours of the ancient paintwork are so vivid. Most items are labelled and in some places there are more detailed explanations of the items. A very interesting 1-2 hours.

The places has good collecti on of Artifacts around India.
Museum closes at 0430 Pm .
Monday it is closed.
There is good number of staff but mostly busy doing their own work.
Provision of guide can be a good option.
Earlier they used to conduct light and sound show which had been stopped for some time.
The place will be more beautiful under lights.
A good place for art lovers.
