We all enjoyed walking around and sledding down the dunes. You can purchase sleds in the visitor center. They are pricey, though. $20 for a new, plastic saucer sled. You can get $5 back if you turn it back in when you're done. We went...More

The first time I saw the white gypsum sand dunes with layers of wind patterns and dark shadows with bright highlights, I knew I would go there. When I realized that the image was taken right here, in the states, I knew it was just...More

Went on a windy day, had sand in places I never were possible. The gift store and museum close at five so try and make it before if you’re trying to buy the sled lids to go down the dunes. Bring sunglasses so your eyes...More

I had heard of White Sands, but really knew nothing about it. What a place! Acres and acres of white gypsum sand. It looks like a cross between dunes at the beach and hills of snow. They have to plow the road, and what look...More

I absolutely loved it. We stayed in Ruidoso New Mexico. Awesome place because of proximity to White Sands and other small town around it. I highly recommend visiting.

What a spectacle, only missing is the sound and smell of the ocean. The sand is so incredibly fine. It looks like snow from afar.

Yes, it is accessible to various degrees. The picnic areas and roads are packed sand, very hard and pretty smooth. There is some unevenness, but no worse than a cracked sidewalk. Depending on mobility, most wheel chairs... More
