    Great Experience
If going in the months when it is open must take a visit to this amazing place. Few suggestion. 1. Take a local cab as obtaining a permit for your vehicle can be difficult. My cab was dezire which cost me Rs 4500 for a trip to rohtang & back via atal tunnel(amazing) and solang valley. 2. Leave early ( around 4am) as a traffic jam usually is bound to occur around the place where permits are checked. Time stuck in jam will be less if you leave early. We reached rohtang around 8:30am leaving hotel at 4am. 3. Can get a few decent restaurants at madhi the last inhabited village before rohtang. 4. Take dangri & winter boots at a rent of Rs 250 per.person from any designated shop. Not necessary but you will be enjoy more in snow(especially kids) 5. No major breathing difficulties are expected at this altitude. We didn't experience any. Had a 10 year old kid accompanying us.

    Life time experience
Lifetime experience but you will get stuck in traffic jam if you go through gulabo route so better to go via koksar village route. Do burhain while taking rides there. Do not go with smaller children ( less than 2 years) he may face breathing difficulties.

    Captivating Snowland in Manali
Our tour planner guided us to visit this place for a snow spectacle. Escaping from summer heat and landing at this destination was an unforgettable experience. It was such a relief to be in this snowland with breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys. Me and my entire family had the time of their life. After enjoying some of the snow activities, the local food tastes so delicious here. Before visiting it, you can rent some snow shoes and snow clothes from the shops on the way. One also needs to obtain a permit which a local company helped us get. The name was Getawayers from Manali. I am sharing the owner's number below, if anyone needs it for their Shimla Manali Tour. Rishbha Getwayers Manali, 7876024233.

Best place in manali and leave early to skip traffic
    1. It is so quite at rohtang pass that you can hear your heart beat. If you leave by 4am, you can reach without traffic. It is mesmerizing view to see snow everywhere and you can play snow games and do skiing there. 2. To reach here you have to buy coat and skiing coach. 3. A travel permit will be required for driving up to the pass. Return is quite tough as there was huge jam and it took us 6 hours in return journey. 4. Best time to visit is May to November as temperature is good. 5. Open through out the year but army personal closes it for a day in a week. 6. You can get maggi at rohtang pass. Nothing else is available there. Hence plan and take some snacks.

We a group of thirty people had an opportunity to witness the snow fall in Rohtang pass. Though Rohtang Pass was not in out itinerary it was optional and it was on our own expenses from the hotel room per head Rs. 600.00 including Atal Tunnel. Well though the snow fall was not heavy but we got it!.

It was our a healthy experience after Khardungla

Too crowded.
Dirty.
No Traffic management leading to unnecessary jam.
Never go for a tour with HRTC electric bus. Instead opt for HPTDC for cost saving option and if you are 1-2 people travelling together.

One of the main high pass attractions from Manali , Needs to be planned a day before and needs to be planned to leave early so that maximum time can be spare on the top and comeback well before afternoon. On the way to top there is beautiful views of surrounding and different views depending on the time you are planning there. Snowfall is added advantage if you are too lucky and you can feel it even before reaching there . Specifically when monsoon ends and winter starting and there is chance of very dense cloudy weather on the top , snowfall can be expected. Needs to be careful about movements as obviously oxygen level will be less there. Local taxi needs to hired to reach there .

Just badly managed started at 5.30 am (as advised) and reached there at 12 noon …. Traffic to get out of Manali around 1.5 hours and then the compulsory mess of renting snow dresses and shoes 45 minutes not needed at all but the cabs won’t move till you rent it. Then traffic on the way right upto the point where passes are checked. Some wait for checking is expected but can’t be 2.5 hours just waiting for the cars to be checked even on a Sunday.

The route is very scenic and beautiful but all you see for a better part of the drive is slow moving cars. Imagine the pollution.

Once you are up the climate cools but not as much one expects in a snowy area. All that is our doing traffic and people all over. Even the ice was the dirty brown ice as dirty as it gets.

Avoidable at all cost specially in the peak season of May.

Come only if you are ready to sit in traffic for 12 hours from Chandigarh to Manali and then another 7 hours on the next day from Manali to Rohtang.

Pathetic experience and is completely avoidable . Having visited Nathu La managed by Indian Army , Gulmarg and other international destinations , the visit to Rohtang pass was one of the worst experience . Started at 8 am and reached destination at 5 pm , 9 hours for 45 km drive from hotel . There are no rest rooms enroute .
Even though we had permits which are supposed to be about 800 per day, there was over 5000 plus cars , absolute chaos , indisciplined driving by greedy HP taxis , no cops enroute or at the Pass to regulate . Human greed and corruption has ruined this place and is avoidable

Must visit place when you visit Manali.
One needs to get a permit, it can be availed online if you are travelling in a personal cab. Bargain properly if booking in Manali itself.
One should use ATAL Tunnel in both ways to save time.
At pass, there are Quad bikes, again Bargain properly.
Barring snow time there is no need to take hired clothes(all the drivers will make you stop and urge you to take clothes on rent).

Rotang Pass is one of the most spectacular high point reachable by car from Manali, Roads are quite bumpy but there are amazing views on the way to top and environmental greenery transition can be easily noticed. It is also one of the gateway to Leh, Lahul Spiti & Pangi Valley from Manali.

We Visited Manali around Mid of Oct 2019 and we experienced a heavy snowfall at Rotang pass though it was also very exciting to see from lower point snowfall and ride thorugh it .

It should be a must visit place whenever you plan for Manali keeping in mind the current road condition during opening and closing period late May to early Nov.
