I've never seen anywhere in the world as beautiful as Kashmir. It was my first time in Kashmir- The real Jannah(Heaven) on earth. Landed in Srinagar on August 15. Enjoyed the house boat in Dal Lake, Shikara ride (small boat ride). Horse ride @ Pahalgam,...More
I absolutely loved staying on a house boat on Dal lake.
This was an incredible experience, visting the floating market & through the boats houses was a lovely tranqil experience.
A visit here & a stay on a house boat is a must.
It's a place where all tourist used to stay in the past as there were hardly any hotels in Srinagar. The lake is a peaceful and serene place where you could just relax in a house boat or tkar a long shikara ride. It's surrounded...More
Even though it was a bit dirty but we enjoy the shikara (boat) ride during sunset.
But...we were scammed. They charged us very expensive but we were so tired to argue that first day since we just arrived in Srinagar we just let it go....More
It is the greatest attraction of Srinagar. There are houseboats one one side and on the other side are shikaras where you can enjoy boating. The lake is huge and if one wants to experience peace and tranquility, u gotto take a shikara ride.
We enjoyed Shikara ( small decorative boat) all along in the famous Dal Lake. We had glimpses of a few nice attractions! Char Chinar was a great place- a tiny island surrounded by four Chinar ( maple) trees which incidentally a film shooting place! Lily...More
It was supposed to be a peaceful and enjoyable shikara that was marred by the many floating vendors plying their trade there.
Dal Lake is indeed a very beautiful place to visit and taking a shikara ride is a must when visiting Srinagar.
there's nothing quite like a shikara ride on Daal Lake. Best if this is part of your stay in a house boat (we loved our time in the houseboat Acropolis). It's a beautiful place. We were blessed with a somewhat warm sunny day in October.

Hi! Yes, it’s accessible in December and the real ‘heavy’ snowfall is more towards the later part of January. Just make sure you stay in a good hotel which can take care of your requirements at that time.

as their is lot of time in July would be difficult to judge in May. From our experience of April i will suggest if the situation is not good in July. pl dont travel no point in taking risk. even if military is deployed still holiday mood gets spoiled of restrictions. like u have to return by 5pm and may have to regularly shift ur plan if u planned for sonamarg and on the way military people return the vehicle u then u have to settle 4 something else. it happened with us too.
from our experience i will advise kashmir is a wonderful place to travel but strictly avoidable in their is tension.
