The place has a historical significance and commands very good views. However it is not disable friendly. Climb to the top of hill is invigorating.

One of the serene and most soothing pieces of the visit to Srinagar. The Shankaracharya temple atop the hill provides a good view of the lake, the gardens, and Srinagar in general. I'd recommend this for anyone visiting Srinagar but please do take into account the 1-2 hours time it takes to visit this place given the long queues.

This is sort of only Hindu Shrine in this area. Under army control so have to go through security checks. You have to climb around 300 odd steps, takes about 15-20 mins to reach atop. Apart from the religious angle, the view from the top of the hill is really awesome and you get almost a whole panoramic view of... More

One can view the lights of Shankaracharya Temple from the houseboats of Dal lake. It is one of the standard places in the 'Srinagar day trip' itinerary. Please note that you are not supposed to take any leather items into the temple area. One can get a panoramic view of Srinagar from the top.

The road to the ancient Shankaracharya temple is picturesque with chinar and christmas trees and other flora on both sides. The views of the Dal lake and the houseboats anchored there from the top of the hill are breathtaking. The temple itself is very ancient - some say about 5000 years old - and has a Shiv mandir at the... More
