This place has a number of very interesting science experiments, suitable for both kids and adults. Things like how pulleys work, how light refraction happens, how optical illusions work etc. Inside the planetarium one has shows at 12:30 and 1:30, ticket for the shows is Rs 75. There are also posters on the moon, planets, observatories in India, asteroids and how they look and what they are built of, etc.
This is a fun outing for the whole family and definitely worth a visit.

Go here if you are interested in the space, the place is good for kids to give them exposure to learn about the space around the earth, though it seems to be lacking in the latest technology. Kids would also enjoy the park and the swing rides, within the premises. It closes early in the evening so if you want to visit, go early. As it is close to Vidhan Soudha so you may plan a visit for both together.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bengaluru is one of the hidden treasures. It is an ideal place to visit with family, friends and kids.
The area around the Planetarium is well maintained and landscaped and the park outside has a great play area and outdoor science 'learning' games for kids.
The auditorium indoors is air-conditioned with comfortable seats and the sound-and-light show is well orchestrated.

Let me put some facts first to help my fellow visitors:
The attraction has 3 units. An outdoor science park, indoor dome theatre and a planetary exhibition. There is no entry fee and no parking fee. But you need to pay to watch the movie in dome theatre. They have multiple shows throughout the day and is of 40 min duration. We watched the "dawn of space age".it's decent but avoid if the kids are below 15 years. They wouldn't get the content much. "Solar system" movie could be apt for them. If you are planning a visit over the weekends, please get there early since the tickets are issued 45 mins earlier in a Q system (2 tickets per head). Kids below 3 yrs are not allowed strictly. So plan it accordingly. One of us had to sit outside.
Science park has various scientific concepts explained through fixed structures. Intriguing for the children but most of them are broken and not working making it disappointing. The campus is well maintained and clean though it is a govt maintained one raising your eyebrows.

Its a great place for a weekend hangout with kids. Not just the planetarium but they also have lots of science experiments around simple physics in the grounds which keeps the kids excited. Please plan for an additional hour to make full use of the
place. The shows are nice and informative and keep the kids as well as the adults entertained. Best for kids aged 6 and above so that they can relate to some basics of universe which are being explained. Some key and useful info.
- Ample parking
- Washrooms are functional and clean
- Not much options of food around, there is a Nandini milk joint
- Show duration is around 40 minutes
Pro tip - Book tickets online to avoid queues and choose seats which are F series or later.

Good place to know about our solar system, planet, space etc. Very knowledgeable for all ages. Note, there is no online or advance booking. Booking counters open 30 mins before the actual show, so be on time. Also, during summers all shows run full time. Each show-time is for apprx 40 mins duration, There is a small play area(science park) infront of the planetarium. Snacks and restroom facilities available too.

If you got 1 hour to kill in Bangalore, I will suggest that you visit the planetarium. It is only about 10-15 mins from MG Road Road.
You might get a long queue on Sunday for the ticket. Nonetheless, you will get to see a great show about the planets.

Planetarium is very small and has primary display exhibits (no models). Except for weight chart on many planets, nothing to interest you except very avid astronomy fan. Dome Shows are alright but vary in subject during the day. Catching right show is useful so check website and go for right time and right show. Three shows in a day, four some days. Pricing is nominal (35/- adult for show, entry to planetarium free). Outdoor science park was work-in-progress when we visited but may be okay when opens. Swings and see-saw in planetarium park has scientific experiments built in so worth a check out. Combine visit with Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain and Military Memorial Park just opposite to make most of your trip.
