Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Kadavum Bagam Synagogue is hidden behind a tropical fish store and owned by a private citizen who purchased the land in order to maintain the synagogue. We had a private tour with Babu (the owner). He owns the tropical fish and plant store that you must walk through in order to get to the synagogue. He has restored and maintained the synagogue beautifully and it was lovely to see. He deserves much praise for preserving this important part of history.

This synagogue has a very interesting history in Kochi which is revealed in old drawings in a small room outside of the actual synagogue. It is tucked away in the Jewish quarter and has a very special presence. You can tell it was and is well cared for even now, with few people actually practicing their faith there.

This is a bit hard to find but our guide gave the taxi driver directions. This was the highlight of our trip to India. It is a hidden gem. We saw the Paradesi Synagogue in the morning which we enjoyed but this was so much more of an intimate experience. One of the sole survivors of the congregation owns the building and has personally lovingly restored it. In the lobby he has an aquarium business but do not be fooled. Inside the sanctuary of the black Jews is as beautiful as the Paradesi Synagogue. We were there alone with him to enjoy it.Make the trip see it and give some sidakah.

My guide took me to visit Kadavum Bagam after we had been to the more visited Paradesi synagogue in Fort Kochi. I found Kadavum to be far more interesting than Paradesi. The building is well preserved thanks to the personal efforts of the affable caretaker Elias Josephai ( he owns a plant and fish store in the front building) who happily opened the doors, turned on the lights and stayed to answer questions. There is clearly so much history in this building. It's a shame the community has dwindled but wonderful to see this remain preserved.

We purposely directed our tour in south India to Cochin to visit synagogue. It was a great surprise to see it. We entered a building that contains a store for plants and fish for aquarium . It is owned by Elias Josephai and his wife. They welcomed us in open hands and took us through the store to the back to wooden doors. We entered the synagogue that was built in 1200 AD. And rebuilt in 1800 AD.
Josephai is taking care of the synagogue and sees to it that it will be cleaned and in operating shape. It is beautiful . To me it was heart warming to see a family who cares to keep a valuable building in a good status to enable people to come and to see the glory of the past Jewish community.
I thank them for their deep caring.

Can spend time to see the Synagogue to abstract the cultural and historical value . Will hardly take an hour to complete the tour .
