A must if you are interested in cultural performance. We got there a bit too early when the makeup was being app!IED which although interesting, took too long. The explanations also lasted a bit too long and while very informative, was too much information. The performance itself was wonderful with the facial expressions and acting first class. Not to be... We stayed right around the corner from here and went to a dance performance, a sitar performance and a raga meditation session. All prices from 250-350 rs and very magical!

Watching the actors apply their intricate makeup was almost as interesting as the dramas they then enacted. The dances were dramatic, funny, bizarre and well worth an hour of our time.

This was more than your usual traditional dance show put on for tourists. For 350 rupees, you get to see an hour of make-up before the show starts as well as the show itself. This was fascinating, particularly seeing the 'star' having his make-up applied by another of the actors. Prior to presenting the story, the narrator, the musicians and... More

We really enjoyed this, even though we weren't familiar with this style of dancing. The performers were hugely entertaining and I would recommend knowing more than we did about it before you go.

Drums bekon the audience to a performance most magnificent - actors depict characters from the Puranas and the Mahabharata, the great Indian epics-demons, superhuman beings & ordinary men & women.

This is an amazing stylized dance form that involves extensive training and is a joy to behold. You start by watching the make up that takes more than an hour to apply. The dancers are all male but like the Shakespearean performers, men can very effectively play the female role. The make up even includes using a seed to make... More

We went for a Kalari show and were quite impressed. Though this centre is tucked inside, its worth a visit to experience the rich heritage of martial arts and kathakali.
