This imposing Basilica is the culmination of the first church built by the Portuguese in 1558. Elevated to a Cathedral by Pope Paul IV. The history of this Basilica is intertwined with the lives of the powerful and famous like Pedro Alvares Cabral, Unni Goda Varma Thirumulpad, the Zamorin of Calicut and the Commander Dom Alphonso de Albuquerque. The current... More

We visited on a Sunday just after the service had finished. Beautiful church from the outside in old Portuguese style. Inside was also special with lots of colours used. Felt very peaceful and we took time to sit for a while. It is in the main area of the town and easy to find.

This soaring basilica, with its Neo-Gothic facade and with its pastel interior is another example of the importance of Christianity in Kerala. A beautiful building!!

This beautiful church is worth a few minutes out of your day. There was a service going on when we visited, so we remained at the back, but could still get a sense of the place. The colour and decoration were beautiful.

A church that dates back to many years with a history attached to it. Untouched by modernity, but very well maintained - a must visit for tourists to Kochi.
