Had gone there with high hopes but were disappointment as could not site anything apart from some Sambars,a Horned Duckbill and a barking deer.42 tigers works out to a tiger in 25 square kilometres, so the the chance of siting one is pretty remote.

We actually did three activities in this huge reserve- the lake boat cruise, already reviewed, the Nature Walk and the Border Trail. The Nature walk, lasting 3 hours, was a great opportunity to spot birds. Our guide was excellent, and with his help we saw and identified many species. As well we saw several troops of Nilgiri Langurs, several Giant... More

We undertook two activities at Periyar Tiger Reserve - Bamboo Rafting and Night Scout. Bamboo rafting consists of a raft safari for an hour N a half inside the reserve plus a 8-10km nature walk or forest trek. Raft safari involves 5 people plus one crew on a traditional raft made of bamboo logs, to which improvised bamboo log seats... More

The park is spread across a large area. The boat ride in Periyar lake is a must have trip. It has to be planned well in advance though as the tickets on the spot are less and hence tend to be sold out. Prefer early morning ride in order to have better chances on spotting animals/birds. The boat ride frankly... More

Vast expanse of Periyar river and the surrounding jungle offers an ideal setting for the animals like, tiger,elephants,bear..etc. But other animals such as bison, wild boar, deer, wild monkeys, large squirrels and wild birds are seen in plenty. The boat ride in the periyar river is a true wild life viewing cruise.

On a Virgin Holidays Classic Kerala tour and staying at the Cardomon Hotel which is 5 mins walk away. Booked this on arrival and is a 2 to 3 hour walking trek starting at 10pm, only 6 people in a group allowed with 2 rangers. We came very close to some elephants, also saw bison, a porcupine, many deer and... More

Nice but not a must, many activities are offered, but are not as described. Bamboo rafting is not really rafting, but a calm bamboo raft rowing on the lake. Jeep safari is not really a safari. Just riding on a jeep with nothing really to see. Save yourself the very early morning wake up

Tiger, Tiger .... is elusive, for one it is not collared hence less easy to track as is possible in the Tiger Reserves of Ranthambore & Sariska at Rajasthan. But one never knows when you get lucky... go prepared for the unexpected. But other wild animals are invariably sighted.
