There's a rush for the boating tickets , if you can manage them online nothing like it .As for spotting animals if one is observant enough or pay attention to the very knowledgeable guides , a good number of birds & small animals are visible . General belief is that the morning ride has the highest chances of sightings .... More

The Periyar Lake is a must-visit place for wildlife lovers. Do take the boat ride through the lake (operated by Kerala govt) to have a chance to spot wild animals like Wild Boars, Indian Bisons, Elephants, and numerous water-birds. Do try to book a morning boat safari (7:30 or 9:30) to stand higher chances of spotting more animals.

Had a lovely early morning trip on Periyar lake. Chilly but beautiful in the slight mist and very peaceful. Excellent crew who pointed out all birds. Did not see elephants etc but didn't really expect to as some of the tourists were very noisy and refused to listen to the crew who tried valiantly to get them to sit down... More

Wonderful boat trip. We saw elephants, wild boar, otters, kingfisher, brown kite, white spotted eagle. Well worth the early morning trip.

We took this trek from The Spice Village Hotel and whilst we were not promised sightings of elephants we were led to believe that it was rare NOT to see them. There was evidence of their presence but unfortunately no sighting. The park itself is beautiful but it does get very hot walking back as it is nearing mid day.

A journey into a landscape for Jurassic Park Film enthusiasts... ruined wooden trees rise from the waters as you pile into a boat packed full of people....take binos and long lenses to truly appreciate the bird life and animals that lurk in nature... it is not going to come out readily for a hoarde load of noisy tourists!

Nothing much to rave about. A poor monsoon has had an effect on the water level. Besides there was nothing worth seeing here.

We did the 9.30am cruise, probably a bit late, as the wildlife,,including elephants are usually seen early in the morning. The cruise however was pleasant, and we saw lots of birds. One of the park guides was very good at spotting and identifying wildlife. We saw a group of wild boar in the distance but the highlight was the family... More
