Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We called at the lighthouse and nearby Anjengo fort while visiting Goden Island. Well worth climbing the 189 steps to the viewing platform at the top for great views over the surroundings.

Varkala which is a small green town at a distance of nearly 50 km from Trivandrum. Varkala Lighthouse is one among the ideal spots from which you can get the complete view of the surroundings. You can enjoy sunset here.

A lovely drive from Varkala allowing you to see smaller villages en route. The lighthouse costs Rs25 to enter (+20 for camera) & is only open 3-5pm as it's operational. It's almost 200 steps to the top - it's worth it for the epic view across the sea, lake and fort.

I got a tuktuk in Varkala which took us to the lighthouse first and to Golden Island afterwards.
The visit at the lighthouse was fun. The building is very well maintained and the view at the top is amazing. You can see the backwaters, the beach with the ocean and a never ending sea of palm trees. Really worth the climb!

I visited this place during my stay in varkala cliff. This place is around 13kms from varkala helipad. The lighthouse is renovated recently its is well maintained. You have to take around 200 steps to reach the top. In the upper deck you get a nice view of beach, anjengo fort, backwaters etc. The lighthouse will be opened till 5pm so you have to reach this place atleast before 04.3Opm.

We rented a motorbike for the day to explore Varkala and stumbled across the lighthouse which is open to visitors 3pm - 5pm and cost 25 rupees per person to enter and an extra 20 rupees for each photo/recording device. You climb the 180+ steps to the top where you are welcomed by a 360' spectacular view which makes the stair climb definitely worth it. The view of the inside of the lighthouse is also a treat when looking up or down the centre of the stairs. We would definitely recommend a visit.

I really enjoyed the short trip here from Varkala. It's in Anjengo which is about a 20 minute ride from Varkala beach. Outstanding views of thousands of palm trees, the beach and the backwaters!
Just note the opening times: 3pm to 5pm! An absolute must if you are hiring a scooter. Be prepared for a bit of a climb and to conquer any fear of heights ;)

I enjoyed the view from the top over the coconut palms to the sea beyond - there is also an interesting old fort over the road from the lighthouse

This is must see if you go to Varkala, the light house looks very nice along the sea, try to visit the light house in the evening. However it needs renovation and easy to reach.Since Varkala is quite small, so worth a visit.

Take the coastal road for the lighthouse which even goes towards Kovalam and Airport. Sometimes in rainy season this road can be dangerous as water may come up till the road, anyway i found nothing that sort. Enjoyed the bike ride through this road and reached the light house. It's open from 3 pm-5 pm only. Minimal charges are applicable for entry and also for camera. They won't allow to do parking inside so keep that in mind to get any parking place nearby. They don't have lift, you have to climb steps for that. Once you reach up you will be mesmerized with the view. one side is the sea view and the other is the backwaters view with coconut trees all around, such a treat for the eyes.
Must visit if you are traveling nearby to this spot.

Hi, if anyone could send me the exact address of the Light House will help a lot because I'm currently in Varkala and I've already asked few locals who don't know about the place. Thank you!
