This temple is a Hindu temple in eatern group of temples of Khajuraho. The temple sits on a high and grand platform considering the relatively small size of the temple. The temple is in excellent condition, surprising considering this temple is well off the main tourist circuit in Khajuraho. The temple is richly decorated with almost full relief sculptures of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The inside and sanctum are small. It’s almost as equally ornate as the exterior, just with less. Inside the sanctum is the idol Vishnu, albeit headless.

The entire area is not managed well by the Authorities.. I am sorry to say but it's very sad that such a wonderful piece of art is situated in a pathatically managed place.. I was feeling very sab thinking what sort of image foreign tourists would be taking with them.. There were pigs, cattles and cow dung all over the place. Hygiene and cleanliness was missing.

Among the temples of the Khajuraho "Eastern group", this is probably the most impressive. It is enclosed within a fence, and surrounded by a small, well-kept garden, where you can admire among other things the plumerias, with their fragrant flowers.
The impressive front porch is significant, extending over two thirds of the length of the temple, and is decorated by an arc in the form of a stylized crocodile.
In my opinion the temple sculptures are at the level of the most elaborate in the great temples of the Western group.
Like in most of the temples of this area, the surrounding countryside - although plagued in different points by scattered garbage - is attractive as for the landscape; perhaps even more so in the rain (as happened to us). In particular, a group of cattle that sought refuge from the rain under a large tree seemed to me a scene worthy of the landscape paintings of Claude Lorrain.

The Javari temple is close to the Vamana Temple and gets its name from the Javar fields it is located amidst. Well worth a visit, since there is no entrance fee

This temple is located beside the vamana temple in the eastern cluster of temples. The temple is better maintained than the vamana temple although the main idol was headless. Good to see but nothing extraordinary.

Just south of the Vamana Temple is the beautiful Javari Temple. This is the most beautiful temple of the Eastern Group.
We visited this temple post our visit to the Vamana Temple and were escorted by a young school boy. On being asked as to how the temple got its name, he stated that the temple has been named after the fields of Jowar (Sorghum) in the midst of which it stands. The internet states that the temple may have been named after the owner of the fields. Whatever be the story, one thing is clear, there is no Hindu deity bearing this name. The temple was built between 975 and 1100 A.D.
The temple is dedicated to the Lord Vishnu. The main idol of the temple is broken and headless. The temple has well-proportioned architecture, with a sanctum, vestibule, mandapa and portico. It has a remarkable arch and shikhara. It has three bands of carved sculptures on the outer wall. The temple bears a close resemblance to the Chaturbhuja Temple part of the Southern Group.

So far the most beautiful Temple I have seen in Khajuraho. The Javari Temple is small in size and has a marvellous architecture. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and is at a walking distance from Vamana temple.
