The Memorial was dedicated in 1971 and was the first major Vietnam memorial in the United States. In 1987 Congress recognized the site as a memorial of national significance. Our visitor center features educational exhibits. The grounds are a peaceful and beautiful backdrop for the Chapel.

We visited the memorial while staying in Taos. It's about at 40-minute scenic drive out of Taos and well worth the drive. The memorial was built in honor of a doctor's son who died in Viet Nam but it honors all Viet Nam vets.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is outstanding. To think that this was privately funded by the father of a fallen soldier is remarkable. This is a must visit.

I visited the memorial not expecting to feel a certain solitude walking around. It's very well done and gives you a feeling of reverence and respect to those who gave their lives.
