    Experience the Culture of Rajasthan
Shilpgram was inaugurated by Rajiv Gandhi in 1989. If you want to see the true colours of Rajasthan then you must visit Shilpgram as it showcases the art, craft and culture of Mewar with complete authenticity. It is situated 3 km to the west of the city of Udaipur. It is surrounded by the Aravalli hills and it depicts the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people of Rajasthan. It also has an open-air Amphitheatre where one can see the performance of folk dances of different states of India during festival. If you are interested in learning the art and craft of Rajasthan, you can join the workshops that are structured to demonstrate the method. Shilpdarshan is a continuing activity at Shilpgram in which traditional performing artists and craftsmen are used to draw from the interior villages of the member states. They are regularly invited to exhibit their skill and to demonstrate their crafts and sell their works in order to have direct access to the buyers. This programme has been initiated with an aim to encourage rural craftsmen and performers.

    Amazing Festival
We were unable to attend Shilpgram Festival on our previous Udaipur visits. So this time we visited Udaipur only to attend this festival. Shilpgram is located at the outskirts of Udaipur city and the annual festival offers wide variety of handicrafts, activities, entertainment, food etc. We enjoyed our visit a lot.

A very poorly advertised tourist spot but it is a must visit in Udaipur. Itโ€™s close to Fateh Sagar lake. It is a re creation of different villages in India and houses locals from those very villages. These locals perform beautiful folk dances and musical events representing their respective cultures. There are various artists live such as making pottery, weaving, marble and stone work, miniature paintings, textile work, bandhni work, jewellery and mojri making. The prices are fair and the profits directly go the artisans themselves.

Located on the outskirts of the city, this is a place depicting rural art and craft. There are several huts with different varieties of handicraft items. You can go to this place if you have time after visiting the main tourist attractions in Udaipur.

Far at the outskirts of the city, the roads are disastrous and not maintained at all. The tickets are reasonable but there isnโ€™t a lot happening with most shops close on a Sunday. Cultural dance and music event was good but no regret if you miss it.

Hard part is traveling back to the city is a bit of hastle as the Auto guys are very rude and charge a lot for 5-7km.

Took a tuk-tuk (loved writing that!) from Hanuman Ghat in Udaipur (200 Rs) and arrived at Shilpgram around 11:15 AM (supposedly opens at 10:30). There was a camel there, dressed up in beautiful colors. NOTHING ELSE! The place was not open, not a soul around other than the two guys sitting next to the forlorn camel. We weren't there 5 minutes, and asked for our money back. Guarded like a prison by arrogant, nasty military men, forget a refund. I am warning you, especially my fellow Americans, stay away from this place. If it's designed for tourists in India, you can bet you will waste your money, and worse, your precious time. Another 200 Rs for a nice tuk-tuk ride back to town, killed about 2 hours and lost 1,000 rupees.
You've been warned.

This place is in the outskirts of the city, near Badi lake. It's basically if u wanna buy art stuff, they have made a small artifical village, where different artists showcase and sell their art. There are also shops selling jootis, handicrafts, showpieces, etc
