Blessed to be back again in Rumtek monestary....must go place for anyone who visit gangtok.. the roads are still in bad shape

Found the monastery to be average. The road to the monastery is being repaired and is in a very bad state as of 12 Nov. Would suggest not going there until the road is repaired.

Its one of the most important Monastries after Tibet. Its got a research center at the back and training for would be Lamas take place. All Buddhist festivals are celebrated with pomp & grandeur here. Lama dance of Rumtek is very famous.

Yes, should be possible to visit the same day. Check the route from where you’re staying, and consider visiting other places basis time you’d like to spend at Monastery

Shared jeeps are available from Gangtok to Rumtek monastery till 1500HRS.(appx) but it depends on availability. Same for returning, but you may not get any shared taxi after 1200HRS. So plan accordingly. In this respect it... More
