When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This temple is famous for it's rock cut carvings.

Actually there are five main sannithis including that of lord Muruga..

01. Karpaga vinayagar sannithi
02. Lord Muruga sannithi
03. Goddess Durga Devi sannithi
04. Lord Shiva sannithi
05. Lord Perumal sannithi

Apart from the abive, you could have Darshan of Goddess Annapoorni, Senthilandavar sannithi and Other sannithis..

The temple complex is huge and you could have Darshan of various other sannithis- if you are not in a hurry.

It is one of the six famous temples dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple is carved out of a mountain somewhere in the 8th century. According to Hindu beliefs, this is one of the rare temples where Lord Shiva (Destroyer) and Lord Vishnu are facing each other. Legend says that it is at this temple that Lord Murugan married Godess Devyani.

THis ancient temple located at the foot hills of a lovely hillock is part of the arupadai veedu temples for Lord Murugan. This temple is close to Madurai city and can be easily reached. Lots of devotees visit this temple to offer prayers to Lord Murugan. Arrangements have been made to ensure that pilgrims visiting can walk in properly organized lines and have proper darshan and also offer poojas.

There are frequent buses from Periyar bus stand,Madurai to Tirupparakundram. We took bus number 48 from Periyar bus stand to tiruparakundram. It took 15-20 minutes from periyar to tiruparakundram.

From the place where bus stops at tiruparakundram the temple is less than 5 minutes walk. Mobiles are allowed inside the temple and the security person will say to keep the mobile in silent mode or to switch it off. Half pants is not allowed as we saw the security person not allowing a guy in half pants to enter the temple,so please dress modestly.

We reached this temple at about 10 Am on a Sunday and we were lucky as only a few pilgrims where there inside the temple at that time. We got a hassle free darshan in less than 10 minutes.

There are no restaurants near the temple,so plan to have food at Madurai and come here.

Will recommend this place to visit when one is in Madurai.

This temple belongs to Swami Kartikeya, known as Murugan in tamilnadu. This is the place were it is believed that he was married. The temple has been carved out between the hills. Beautiful architecture of the temple, a must visit if you are in Madurai.
