I quite like churches. I'm not religious so they aren't significant in that way but they are ideal places to stop and think awhile and reflect on where you have been and what you have seen. St Stephens church is an attractive building on ground that gives a good view down into Ooty. The interior matches it's rather austere exterior... More

St Stephen's church and the adjoining cemetery are a must visit if you are the one who gets a high thinking about those times when British Ruled India. The church is a magnificent but simple structur, the wood for the beautiful interiors are supposed to be brought from Tipu Sultan's palace in Serigapattanam, the glass paintings are beautiful. A very English church and grave yard. It adds detail to the history of the past British era and the people, especially soldiers, engineers, and tradesmen who built so much in a foreign land they adopted for a period.

The church was built about 200 years back and many of the articles are the original ones. The glass paintings around the inner walls resembling what I had seen (and posted in nTrip Advisor site) in St. Joseph Pontifical Seminary in Aluva/Alwaye are delightful fo watching and enjoying. You are expected to remove your foot wear before entering. There is... More
