Poor Shah Jahan to have been imprisoned in such a shabby place! Beautiful courtyard gardens, elegant carving of marble and sandstone and impeccable view towards the Taj Mahal can't have been the worst place to spend time. However, I guess that everything is probably relative.

The Fort complex is beautifully designed, all courts and palaces are well preserved and maintained. The marble palace of the emperor is a bright piece of art. Although foggy without sun the views were still magnificent.

It is quite big with a lot of buildings, rooms, gardens and halls. After Taj Mahal, Agra Fort is tha second "must" in Agra city. Be ready to walk for at least 2 hours.

You need to have a guided tour in order to appreciate the history behind the fort. Very interesting and you can see The TM in the distance.

If you want a larger slice of Moghul history, artistry, and brilliant syncretic architecture visit Agra Fort. We were there for two hours, I could have spent all day. You will see exquisite marvel (and inlays), sandstone architecture, beautiful gardens, a view of Taj Mahal, and above all the poignancy of the emperor Shah Jehan who was imprisoned here.
