VaranasiWalks is the oldest experience oriented eco-friendly walking tour...

VaranasiWalks is the oldest experience oriented eco-friendly walking tour and boat journey collective in Varanasi.

Since 2008 our Explorers have given an intimate look at the holy city of Varanasi and are able to show you places in the city that the average tourist could never find.

Our walks cater to those who want to see the layered interiors of the city and avoid the static silk shopping game. The boatrides include short walks and detailed history along with immersed experiences!

As a collective of residents of the city we are flexible and open to working with you to create a experience you will never forget.

VaranasiWalks was started by Jai while he was running a successful Hindu Studies & Hindi Language university program and working in the Social Service sector. Jai has been giving walks in Varanasi since 2004.

We took the northern alleyway and bazaar walk and our guide Amrit was superb. enthusiastic and intelligent about his city and informative without being pushy or over friendly. I thoroughly recommend this company, although not cheap it is well worth the money for an insight and knowledge of the area and its history.

We really enjoyed having Amrit as our guide. We asked lots of questions about Varanasi's history, religious diversity, and cultural values and he patiently gave us extra time to address each of them. Amrit provided nice tips on where to eat and helped us with transportation between meeting points along the walk.

We visited Varanasi in Late December 2016 (29th to be exact) and we had a very early morning walk and boat trip booked. But our guide, Nomi Tripathi, came to see us at our hotel the night before and advised us that whilst he was very happy to make our walk a 6am departure, as was the plan, he would... More

Varanasi is a crazy city, even more so during Diwali. Jai and his team were the best way to find my way around the myriad of streets and lanes that usually as a solo female traveler I wouldn't have bothered! Instead in the nooks and crannies we would find absolute gems of history, or a hand-shake from one of Jai's... More

Extending our understanding beyond sight seeing and historical monuments, our incredible guide, Laotse took us deep into the mind and souls of the Varanasi people through Laotse's stories, paths and artifacts found all around the city. Resultant of Laotse's expertise and knowledge, we learned, visited and saw things beyond our expectations. In addition, a true story-teller, Laotse taught us more... More

Thank you for your kind words about Laotse and apologies he could not complete the second tour due to fever. We were unable to arrange a second guide on short notice when he communicated to me he was too ill to do 3.5hrs walking, as the nightwalk is quite a endeavour. Thank you so much for your flexibility and understanding... More

Thank you Jeremy (Jai) for organising our tours with Nomi. Nomi was always on time, polite, informative and flexible to change our times and areas covered. We had an evening boat ride (not to be missed) a temple walk and backstreets walk. We both enjoyed the backstreets walk more than the temple tour but of course that depends on your... More

Jai and his team are incredible. Varanasi is a complex city with incredible richness. Walking alone through the city, you miss so much, from the stories to the hidden courtyards. I did three walks with Jai and Lotse and they added so much to my experience and understanding of Varanasi. A must do.

I had used Streetwise Varanasi the previous two days for three tours, but really getting into the back streets of Varanasi is so much easier with a guide, so I booked two more tours with Varanasi walks. Another really enjoyable day spent exploring the back streets and history of this fascinating place. Great way to find your way around this... More

We walked with the guide Amit 2 walks: an evening walk "death and rebirth" and afternoon walk in the hidden alleys and market of Varanasi. We had learnt a lot about the city, religion, architecture, Indian philosophy, ceremonies, etc. the trails are well designed , giving a very wide perspective of this special place.
