You will find this pillar inside the temple and if you take a guided tour they will definitely tell you about it's history and original carvings of the stone.

The Ashoka Pillar is a part of the archaeological excavation site in Sarnath. The site is very historical and is worth a visit. The pillar now lies in multiple pieces and the top which is our emblem is in the museum

The sarnath site and the adjacent museum are worth a visit. Entry fee for both is 30 rupees. The site has description of important areas, one being the pillars. These are broken and are placed within glass enclosure. Ashok an inscriptions are clearly visible. The...More

Ashoka Pillar is present in the same area where Dhamek Stupa is situated. Only the pillars are kept here in three to four pieces. The upper portion is kept in Sarnath Museum.

I went to Ashoka Pillar. The national emblem of India and a mark of Emperor Ashoka's visit to Sarnath, the Ashoka Pillar crafted out of stone is an impressive structure with four lions at the top. It is great place to go.

This is a ashoka pillar in saranath but its not full and erect but houses only the lower broken parts of the pillar kept inside the fensed grilled enclosure and we could not go near

Great king Ashoka installed these pillars as symbol of the strength of his power and rule. One of these pillar was at this place although now its in broken shape.
