Beautyful view of ganges, more quiet ghat, just lovely to sit and watch or stroll, take a boat to the other side & come back an hour later

We did a sunrise cruise from the Assi Ghat as part of an Intrepid tour. The Ghat is one of about 20 Ghats were cremations take place. We saw a cremation up reasonably close, however, as a mark of respect we did not take any photos. There was plenty of action even at sunrise with people praying and bathing in... More

We were to take a motor boat to Dashashwamedh ghat. So we parked the car, used the washrooms and then went to see the aarti.

That was the place to come every day when I stayed in Varanasi. In the evenings it was always full of people and colourful. We rented a motor boat there to have an evening visiting of Ganges. During Banaras days Assi Ghat was full of beggers waiting for the tips with their bowls. It was incredible to see richer Indians... More

I spent the early morning (from 6am) at Assi Ghat watching the morning ceremony. This should be a must do for all visitors to Varanasi.

This is the most tourist friendly ghat and a good area to stay. It's fairly clean with good open spaces and you have good access to the Ganges. There are plenty of hotels, cafes and shops in the area and it's a comfortable walk along the river bank to the other ghats where you will see cremations, men bathing, barbers,... More

Being a Banarasi, this has been our "go to" ghat when when all of us school friends want to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the "Subah-e-banaras", followed by a boat ride down the river.

Assi Ghat is one of the many ghats of Ganga River. It is believed to be the last of 80 holy ghats in Varanasi in ancient times. While the whole story can be read on Wikipedia, I love being at the bank of Ganga river. Love the city Varanasi and its beauty.
