This place is only 30 mins drive from Varanasi and best to get there by car so several temples may be viewed on the way.

Many ruins , one impressive stupa : it is still worth the visit if one is in the Varanasi region . It also is a haven of peace and quiet in the roaring world of Varanasi .One nice surprise : the museum , which displays various artifacts of Buddhist , Gupta art etc..., is quite interesting for a small place... Wonderful site where Buddha used to sit and meditate. He gave his first sermon here after attaining enlightenment. Beautiful remains, set in a beautiful park land. The museum has lots of interesting items associated with the site and Buddha.

One could immediately sense the calmness and serenity of Sarnath and feel the presence of Lord Buddha and all the truths and values of Buddhism. A dignified silence which permeates from the surroundings envelopes one to taste the essence of Buddhism and its teachings.
