Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have booked a diving trip from Padang Bai, two dives at Nusa Penida with Manta Point our first destination.
The conditions were very good, sea pretty calm and the trip across the channel smooth.
This dive point is pretty busy with at least 8 boats already there, there was a number of divers in the water, however the site is pretty large so you can find your own spot. After 20 minutes of nervous drifting and thinking that we will be unlucky on the day a flock of 7 mantas went straight in front of us. Two more spotting of a pair of mantas and the dive was over. Majestic place.

I go with Atlantis and the dive centre is wonderful with a good instructor following us and helping us during the dive. However the boat ride was very rough and the surge under water made me very sick. We were told manta rays should appear at the cleaning station every day except few days but i did not see any manta in the first 40 mins. Only at the last 5-10 mins the giagantic manta appear like a big 747 slowly gliding down to the reefs. The experience could be more wonderful if i hadn't have seasick. Apparently the strong currents and rough waves are the norms around P. Penida.

This review is about the 'real' Manta Point in the Maldives, officially known as Hanifaru on Baa Atoll. This is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and only allows snorkeling. Scuba diving has been banned for 3-4 years now and visitor numbers are controlled. We booked our visit through our resort (Soneva Fushi) and part of the cost goes towards the environmental maintenance of the reserve.
It's important to go at the correct stage of the tide (your resort should know this) and the right time of year. The right time of the year is May-November during the West Monsoon. The reason for this is that the plankton on which the Mantas feed is concentrated in the funnel shaped lagoon which results in huge concentrations.
We tried to visit on two occasions. The first was quite rough with little plankton and resulted in an aborted trip. The second was ideal. We saw and snorkeled with approximately 30 Manta all of which were around 3-4 metres in size. The way they all cruise backwards and forwards with their huge mouths wide open within a few feet of us and with little concern with our presence was truly awe inspiring. An experience of a life-time which has to be witnessed to be believed.
If you have a chance to visit Hanifaru take it. It won't be cheap but if you get a day like we did you won't regret it.

Went to this reef which is 40 minutes south of Hudhuran Fushi Island North Male ATOL. Saw 4 large Manta's at this well known (and was told only one) cleaning station. Visibility was about 25 metres and the Mantas were swimming above us. This was our third visit to this cleaning station during our stay. Each time we saw Mantas. Brilliant!

We visited the Manta Point / North Atoll (there are 2, one in the South) for a 50 minute snorkelling experience. There was 1 other small boat on arrival, and to be honest I had little knowledge as to what this was going to be ..... in to the water and my-oh-my, these creatures are majestic and HUGE.
My heart stopped, I will never forget how I felt and it's a life experience that I will never ever forget. I actually shed tears inside my snorkel.
2 Mantas stayed with us (10 in the group) for around 50 minutes, circling, dancing and they are extremely curious creatures.
TIP: Be quiet, calm and don't move and they will come to you. We had a GoPro camera and kept on the outside of our group. We got some amazing footage but the memories of our first impressions will stay with us forever!

Possibly one of the most placidly dramatic aquatic encounters in the Maldives is the graceful and commanding creature Manta Ray. Quite prevalent across most of the Maldives, we have seen them a number of times from shore. When the people at Country Travel mart mentioned to us about those space ship shaped fish we didn't expected this much. Its is said by the locals that the ‘best’ time for pelagics is the ‘worst’ time for weather.

Went to Manta Point while on the Yasawa Princess. Wrong season for the Mantas but it is still a great dive with loads of reef fish and the cleaning stations open for business for other species. As well as the smaller fish there were a number of white tip reef sharks and some eagle rays. Towards the end of the dive there was quite a current over the reef so probably not suitable for novices.

I just moved to the Maldives and on one of days off I went scuba diving at Manta Point! I have see many things before but after this dive I was stupefied! I was lucky enough more than 6 big beautiful Manta Rays! One of the best dives ever! If your a diver and planning to visit the Maldives (if your in the season) this dive should be on your list!

We dove in a dive spot called Lankan Manta Point which is just 5 minutes from Paradise Island Resort, North Male.
This was a wonderful dive, it was the best i ever made! We saw a group of 5 mantas and was amazing staying there watching them.

Brilliant place to dive. We saw 4 or 5 giant manta rays swimming within an arm’s length of us. Delighted beyond words!
